Gunnarrson - Phaneuf
Liles - O'Byrne
Fraser - Franson
Gardiner
Kostka

That's what I(potentially) don't like about this. O'Byrne seems decent enough but I don't want Gardiner sitting for the rest of the year.

To be fair, I remember when Boston won the cup, Seguin was a healthy scratch for a good portion of it (he only came in due to injuries to Horton & Krecji).  I guess part of it is a learning experience for younger players...

Sure, and if the Leafs were the sort of contenders that the Bruins were that year I'd accept that they'd be making moves at the deadline to bolster their vets at maybe the expense of the PT of some of the younger guys in the service of making a deep playoff run.

If, however, the attitude going into the playoffs is that it's kind of a learning experience for the club as a whole I'd want Gardiner to be a part of that.
IMO Gardiner has proven nothing this season. He has given the puck away alot. Yes he can skate, but going into the playoffs I would rather have a good defensive player back there protecting the net rather then being caught up ice losing the puck. I am not a hater I just dont think he has really earned a spot.

I'll defer further judgment until I see him play, but not expecting much really.

At the very least, extra healthy bodies on the back end that can play at the NHL level are always needed during the playoffs. - Better than Holzer!

He has some good history as a partner with Liles - might help them salvage that contract.

Apparently, Carlyle really like Fraser (defensive left side)-Franson (offensive right side) as a pairing. O'Byrne is not a top pairing dman. So O'Byrne fits as a right side defensive dman to play with left side puck movers Gardiner or Liles.

It is a bit of a real slap down of Komisarek who should have been able to provide that.

Did O'Byrne and Liles play together in Colorado? That looks like the likely pairing, maybe they know each other and work well together? Hope so anyway.

I hear they did play together, also I herd today O'bryne is very good on the PK. that should be a boost to are allready solid PK.

And of course Chara retaliates for some reason, like he does whenever anyone stands up to him.

That's because Chara has a no hit policy for anyone over 6 feet tall. He only runs at Wellwood, Tucker, Gerbe and such size players....makes him feel better about himself when he does.

Do it, and do it well.  The Leafs offense is pretty good.  Defense is a ton better then it ever was under Ron Wilson.  But despite some fans hatred towards the 4th line guys, etc... the Leafs might end up being the toughest.  Could the team's toughness give it an edge over softer teams?

Toughness certainly helps in the playoffs, where the refs tend to let the teams go at it.  The Vancouver/Boston series a couple years ago looked like UFC on ice, which really gave the Bruins an edge.

He did it this year with Kadri. Nazem hit him pretty good once nice and clean. He just feels he is untouchable.. Goes right after him. I hate Chara with a passion

He's led his team in hits the last four seasons and he's good for the occasional fight so he brings something to the table. I haven't seen nor noticed him a lot (which might be ok for a defensive dman)
