Sharks @ Leafs - Dec. 13th, 7:30pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

OK, Mike Babcock, Soshnikov over Nylander?

What. The. Eff.

Some of his decisions are just perverse.

I know the Leafs are bad at the shootout and everything but when is the NHL going to do away with this nonsense?

We suck in the shootout. Try someone else Mike. Maybe Nylander? Keep taking dumb penalties gonna come back and bite you. Wonder how many points we've thrown away already this season. Uggghhh.

Nylander was great in the OT.

Jones was incredible, though.

Eh. Both of the saves they were making a big deal about seemed more like blown opportunities by the Leafs.

Ya I agree don't really think I saw anything spectacular.

Honestly, shootouts are basically crapshoots no matter what. The idea that Nylander would have presented a tangible advantage over Sosh doesn't have much behind it.

Stuff like this makes me think he's still a member of tank nation for another year.  I kind of have to think this because if these decisions are supposed to be Babcock trying to win then I'm losing hope.  If we get another top-10 or top-5 pick then the decisions start making sense next season all will be well.

Like seriously what has Soshnikov done to earn the opportunity over almost any other forward?  11th forward in scoring on the team and 3.8% shooting percentage I don't know how putting him out there can be interpreted as trying to win.

I'm sure you wouldnt have a problem with shootouts if the Leafs weren't perpetually terrible at them.
Btw, I seem to remember Holland being half decent on shootouts last year ;)

Except he's a better goal scorer.  But otherwise, sure, not much.

I won't speak for L K but I would even if we won every time.

I literally turn it off before the shootout and check the final on my phone. I have to put kids to bed so I'm already watching the game a half hour behind which makes it easy. It feels like a coin flip to me and I don't enjoy it. I wish they still had ties.

The loser point annoys me too.b.

If you were going to base you opinions on, you know, numbers and such(crazy but hear me out) and go back and look at shootout numbers year by year the idea that it particularly corresponds to who's a better in-game goal scorer disappears pretty quickly.

Watching the highlights. Holy crap that goalie interference call on Kadri was awful.

Also do they seriously just randomly decide which goalie interference calls on goals also result in a 2-minute penalty?

Oh, the shootout.  Makes me cringe knowing the Leafs aren't that good at these.  Guess they're just going to have to be better at this somehow.  This area could use improvement.

I think we know exactly why it was called and it had a lot to do with the name plate on the back of the jersey.  The refs have been merciless against Kadri since that commentary near the end of last year.

Another one got away. As a fan who wanted them to make a run at the playoffs. This is not helping my dream of games in late April.

I'm sure he would, and so do I.  It's like breaking a tie on a 4-round golf major on a mini-putt course.

And the Leafs are 20-19 in shootouts since the beginning of the 2013-2014 season, so calling them perpetually terrible at them isn't exactly accurate.

I'm not saying it's possible still, but I can see this team improving their record in the second half of the season.

Even then though, if the Leafs were terrible at them year in and year out then at least yo could look at it as a testable and repeatable situation that could be improved. My problem with the shootout isn't that it's deciding a game arbitrarily, it's that it's almost deciding it randomly.
