Sharks @ Leafs - Dec. 3rd, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

This second period Leafs side is the Leafs side we haven't seen enough of this year. We know they can do this kind of thing.

It's frustrating they can't do it more.

You just have to look at the shots for/against the past seasons.  This started getting really bad towards the end of last season and has simply continued this season.

Sure, but this certainly has been magnified during a time when they're short/have been very short on talent in a key area, at centre. Also, they're just not nearly physical enough for me overall and it's tough to teach physical.

Didn't the team fall off a cliff under Wilson too?

They fell off a cliff but not by being dominated like this (not this 2nd period anyways). They were done in by awful goaltending but never got outplayed to this degree.

The other coaches mustn't have let Carlyle in the locker room during the first intermission. It's the only explanation.

Smithson fighting?

... this comment pretty much writes itself...

How else is he going to fit in on the 4th line?

I honestly think there should be a rule that you must have at least as many points as fights to stay in the league.

Well, sure goaltending was an issue during the Wilson years but I don't remember them being uber competitive every night, and I defended Wilson quite a bit at the time. This sort of reminds me of the year the Leafs went to the wire to make the playoffs under Quinn, they worked at reinventing themselves to be more of a playoff team dujour and it took most of the season to find their game.

Anywho, maybe Carlyle and company are just figuring out how to meter out the energy drinks in the correct configuration, they sure are playing better right now. ( which means they're capable of it and it's even more mind bending for me when they don't )

Rielly out there with the 4 useless stiffs again, and, San Jose gets to play in the Leafs' end for a long shift.

And, the puck ends up in the Leafs' net.
