Laine is really issuing a cry for help here, he does not want to go to Winnipeg.

Every time I watch Matthews, on the ice or in interviews I come across impressed.

He's also a young guy, seems like he enjoys himself based on clips I've seen of the guy.  Where would the nightlife be better for him Toronto or Winnipeg?

I think there are more puck bunnies per capita in Winnipeg.  :)

I can't help but not like the cockiness and worry that Laine will ultimately prove to be a selfish player as opposed to Matthews who comes across as a guy who puts the team and winning first. Not much to go on to make that conclusion I know.

Every time I hear Laine speak I want the Leafs to draft Matthews a little more.

I get the same feeling about Laine.

Mock draft season is hitting critical mass.

As good as Patrik Laine is, and as much as the Leafs surely did their due diligence and considered him as a real option, Auston Matthews is Toronto's guy.

At 6-2 and roughly 200 Ibs, Matthews is the centre most teams dream about. Skates well? Check. Can play with power and out-muscle defenders to create chances for himself and create space for his linemates? Check? Can finish as well in tight with elite stickhandling and movement around the net as he can from a distance with one of the class' best releases? Check. A developing high-end defensive presence who comes back deep in the zone and is aggressive on loose pucks? Check.

An adept passer who can find teammates through seams and do more than just score? Check.

He's everything the Leafs have so desperately needed since the departure of Mats Sundin.

I need to lie down.

The more I hear Laine talk in interviews, the more he sounds like Jets fans, he should fit in well with that fanbase. I'm pretty sure we are drafting Matthews, and will be very happy when I hear the Leafs call his name.

There is no night life in Winnipeg really, unless it's a weekend and even then it's pretty lame! Don't get me wrong, Winnipeg is a good place to live, but more so for kids or adults, not so much for teenagers if they want to party.

I'm just basing my claim on the fact that there are more hockey fans in general per capita, in Winnipeg than Toronto BECAUSE there's literally nothing to do.  :)

Toronto being far more diverse and with far more things to do undoubtedly have far less hockey fans per capita, puck bunnies included.  ;)

I lived in Northern Manitoba until I was 29, so I'm used to cold Winters, I actually prefer winter over summer haha

Winnipeg is nice as its not too big or small, I can easily get to work in 20 mins, and across the city in 35 mins. Also, to get out and go camping, lots of options an hr away :D

The only bad part, is their fans, just as bad, if not worse than Habs fans.

I just want the draft to be over so we can stop talking about this and start planning our line combinations.

Players I would trade Auston Matthews for, straight up:

Connor McDavid
That'd be a dream trade.  And who wouldn't want that.
