If anybody is looking for even a tiny little bit to chew on on this subject, there's this from this article:

- Inspired by Lebron James' return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Adam Proteau wrote a piece pondering when a Toronto-born superstar would come to the Maple Leafs via free agency. He singles out Steven Stamkos primarily, but also mentions PK Subban and other players.
- Proteau tweeted his article out. Within hours, it was favourited by Steven Stamkos. It was Stamkos' 5th favourite in his Twitter career. Stamkos has since unfavourited the tweet.
- Twitter user @HaTTrickTYL3R tweeted Stamkos and John Tavares asking them to pull a Lebron & Bosh to Miami move and come to the Leafs. Stamkos favourited this tweet as well. Stamkos has since unfavourited this tweet.

Take it for what it's worth, if anything.

I only visit this site a few times a year. A lot has changed since I was a regular many years ago.

For instance, if someone doesn't know any better and posts something that is already posted somewhere else the nice folks here used to let that person know via a PM or a mod would merge it. Now you just get treated like the redheaded step child who is not in the cool club.

I wonder why all these years later it's the same old people bantering back and forth.

Yea I don't post on here anymore either.  I remember when it was a fun place to hang out....no more.

Yeah the know-it-allism of some is to blame.  Like those robots guys.

Yet who are the people publicly insulting others here?  Take a look in the mirror, certain posters derailed this thread with some vendetta or something.  You can always block those posters you really can't stand, or even PM them and talk about it.

I'd say I've noticed a general increase in the quality. For the most part, people here understand that we're mostly looking for a more informed discussion than most of the other hockey message boards out there.

Agreed.  If someone were to think this place is bad, they should check out some of the other boards for a week, where every other word is a curse word, and posters aren't shy about calling each other names.  I've found the discussion here is always measured, thought out and rational, but in moments of elation, most people let their fandom take over.

Getting things back to Stamkos, I do think at some point we're going to see a fairly high profile star want to come home and play in Toronto (while he's still in good shape). I don't know if it will be Stamkos, Subban, Tavares, or somebody else, but it's bound to happen.

I know the Lebron thing is fresh in people's minds but it's pretty safe to say that doesn't happen unless the Cavs are both in a position to offer him the max money and have a very good group of young players combined with the demise of the Heat.

I don't doubt for a second that if in 2 years, Timmy L is still running MLSE, Stamkos is available and still at the form he is now, that he will throw max money at him to come home. 

The Leafs could/should be pretty competitive by then, hopefully still loaded up with young players like Bernier, Kadri, Gardiner and Rielly who should be through most of their growing pains, along with some other prospects like Nylander. 

So maybe on top of it being home + the money, the Leafs will actually be a solid team he can be the franchise player / #1 centre for.

I don't doubt for a second that if in 2 years, Timmy L is still running MLSE, Stamkos is available and still at the form he is now, that he will throw max money at him to come home. 

I don't think it matters who is running the Maple Leafs, if a 26 year old Stamkos is on the market every team with the cap space to sign him will inquire and probably even most of the teams who don't. That'll be the competition they find themselves in.

That is a pretty hard trade proposal to top.  I have tried some crazy ones for fun here but I hope I never beat ones like that.  Especially if they are serious.  Wow!

The Leafs media, if they play their cards right and butter this guy up for 2 years, can help things along.  This is exactly what the leafs need.  1a and 1b with Kessel.

And that is likely a big part of it.  I think if the Lighting are trending down and the Leafs have moved into 'contender' status, there is a possibility.  If that's not the case, it's all just wishful thinking.
