Stamkos stays in Tampa [8 years, $8.5mil AAV]

I think Stamkos is cursing the Leafs winning the lottery, which in my mind changed the course of action for the Leafs...as it should have.

I don't think I understand exactly what you mean here, but I'm a bit disappointed that they grabbed a goalie now if it failed to entice Stamkos. Would feel a lot more confident about great lottery odds with Bernier/Sparks.

I was trying to say that before the lottery, the Leafs were looking for a first line centre, and Stamkos was waiting to have the discussion. After the lottery win, the need for a first line centre was no longer there for Toronto. The Leafs likely acted as such.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Stamkos got cold feet.

50 bucks he asks for a trade in the next 3 seasons. Any takers ?

Who needs Stamkos when we have a Matthews?

In a way, I am relieved that the Leafs did not get themselves mired in yet another albatross of a long-term contract.  As much as many had hoped that he (Stamkos) would sign here, it is probably in Stamkos' best interests to stick with the Lightning.

Why should be a surprise?  Afterall, isn't a Stanley Cup win on the mind or the dream of many a player in the league?  By choosing to stick with the team that drafted him, and of all the suitors -- Toronto Detroit, Buffalo, NYRangers, etc., -- Tampa Bay has the tools for serious Cup contention and more to come, Stamkos gives his stamp of approval to the Yzerman management team, as well as to other issues (taxation, terms of contract, etc.).

Stamkos could have pouted, been upset with not having played in the playoffs (due to health reasons), sign with some other team, and whatever. He did no such thing.  Good for him, good for the Lightning.

Stay classy, Steven Stamkos.

Teams that feel bad about missing out on Stamkos:
1. Detroit
2. Buffalo
3. Some segments of Toronto

Teams that would be feeling bad about missing out on Stamkos, but are too busy burning their paraphernalia:
1. Montreal

I think that if tampa had won the cup with stamkos playing in the final and hoisting the cup as their captain...

he would be signing with toronto tomorrow, but instead he wanted to finish what he started.

I like to naively think that Samkos taking a home-town discount will have a ripple effect that will one day make Matthews, Nylander and Marner do the same.

Hi, this is Tigger's black hole of a heart calling, callow pebbles get tossed a little too easily.
