It's a good point, but Liles has zero physicality. I suppose it's not worth the chance, but the whole time he'd be playing, we'd be screaming for a stay-at-home rough and tumble type.

I'm not so sure we would. As long as Liles helps the team spend less time in their own end, I couldn't care less how physical he may or may not be. Physical play is a seriously over-rated attribute. Some of the best of all time weren't particularly physical players.

Liles is a calm, veteran presence that skates well, moves the puck well and reads the play well. I like MacWilliam's potential to be a quality NHL defenceman in the future, but, the last thing the Leafs need is another inexperienced player back there - especially if that player is going to spend a good chunk of time in the press box.

Fwiw, I wouldn't be, I'd rather they send him down and bring up anyone else.

It would be nice to have another guy exactly like Gunnarsson, but you're right, Liles would be a whole lot better than what we're seeing from Fraser right now. If we could get Fraser playing like he was in the playoffs or for a lot of last season, this point would be moot right now.

McClement has been useless pretty much all year. Zero offence, bad penalties, mostly bad defence.

Yeah, ok, every neophyte should know he isn't scoring but I mean, c'mon.

He was pretty bad in the playoffs. It's not really a coincidence that the Leafs started playing a lot better after he got hurt and Gardiner came in.

If not Liles I think that Holzer would be a big upgrade over lead foot Fraser right now.

Well, there's no doubt that Fraser has to go, he just doesn't have NHL speed anymore. That's to go with his inability to move the puck effectively.

Yeah, you're right, it was his play during the regular season that earned him his contract. I wonder how much of that was Franson though also?

I've only been watching since the start of the third, but Clarkson looks absolutely worthless.  I hate that guy...

I don't hate him but he has looked rather Iggy style 'passenger'esque tonight.

His play started going downhill in the 2nd half of the season, and, it's not really that hard to figure out why. He was in the AHL throughout the lockout, so, when the NHL got going, he was already in midseason form. Once the rest of the league caught up there, he was exposed.

That and the Leafs coaching staff absolutely protected him.

It's a little disturbing how everyone vacated the zone when Gardiner was trying to get away from the forechecker.  How about a little puck support?
