Carolina picked up a pity point tonight, putting them 5 points up with a game in hand. (They win ties, so it's really more like a 4 point cushion.)

finishing 4th instead of 3rd increases their chances of taking Strome.

Finishing 5th doesnt though. That was kind of the point. If they are suddenly feeling reinjuvinated after the Ottawa victory, it could spell the end of any hopes in getting Strome, whether he is the player they covet or not.

Maybe it doesn't. But we don't know for sure Strome is going at #4 either. Or, again, if he is there at 4 if the Leafs would take him. Maybe they like Marner. Maybe they don't like Strome.
Seems odd to get worked up about how their finish impacts their odds to take a particular player when there's no guarantee they take him anywhere.

The price of being exceptional, I suppose.

Good article by DGB about ideas to fix the current run of Tanking. Some neat ideas in there, specifically the Gold idea and Zach Lowe's Wheel.

How to implement this? Not sure. Maybe some sort of a ranking/matching/bidding system?

RedLeaf said:Well, I really hope the Leafs got the winning out of their system the past two games, because we really don't want them slipping to the 5th pick position, or even the 6th if they slide down after the lottery. That would really suck not getting someone in that top 4-5 range, especially with all the sucking we've already had to endure this season.
