The 2014 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Yeah, two runs in three games plus three innings is not going to cut it in any league, particularly for a team who is very poor at manufacturing runs. The injuries are definitely going to hurt them, even though the pitching continues to be decent.

Three games into this road trip and they are already in second place. I hope they can rebound and finish this road trip well and stay in the race. Last thing we need is another "18-wheeler going over the cliff".

Well, it was exciting for a little while, but, it's time to start looking forward to who they're going to trade away at the deadline.

Bautista, Encarnacion*, Buerhle chosen Blue Jays for All-Star Game In Minneapolis on July 15.

Bautista leads the Majors in hits, games & OBP.  He was voted in by the fans.

Encarnacion (*currently injured; will not play) chosen via managerial selection (A.L. manager is Boston 's John Farrell, ironically an ex-Jays boss).

Buerhle chosen by players.

It's been bad for awhile but they're still only 2 games back.  Might as well go for it this season, they've come this far.

We'll see where they're at in a couple weeks. If they're still within 2 or 3 games heading into the last week of July, then, yeah, don't make any major moves and see how things go. However, with all the injuries and such, there's a very real possibility that they're going to continue to drop in the standings, and, in that case, they really should start seriously looking at moving out some bigger pieces and maybe even going for a serious rebuild.

Why is John Farrell being an ex-Blue Jays manager ironic?

I assumed that the fact that the ex jays "boss" chose to pick a current Jay was the alleged ironic part. Of course, that's not ironic either.

Huh?

Yeah, that's not really even close to being true. He leads MLB in walks and the AL in OBP. He's not in the top 10 for games or hits. Not particularly close to being there, either.

It's not even Alanis Morrisette's idea of irony.

Jays lose another one 5-2.  Still can't hit.  As mediocre a season as Rasmus has had, Gibbons chooses to pinch hit for him with Darin Mastroianni for some reason.  Mastroianni strikes out.  I didn't watch the post-game but if someone asked him about it in the presser I'm sure he made a comment like "If it had worked out you wouldn't be praising me for it, but that's how it goes with you guys".

It's funny how baseball guys always call "hindsight" even though everyone is saying it before it happens.
