The Marlies In Context - A Playoff Primer

Keefe said the entire team was told before the playoffs began that there would be lineup rotation due to depth and that even the core guys could expect to sit some games.

I think it's one of those cases where you take them at face value and don't read too much into the scratches other than the team being just outrageously talented.

I mean at one point one of the Bridgeport announcers said they believed the Marlies 4th line could be a first line on several other AHL playoff teams.

Notable lineup scratches/injured:

Matt Frattin - 34 points - Played 0 of 3 games
Colin Smith - 56 points and 22 in 23 games with the Marlies - Played 1 of 3 games
Viktor Loov - Played 1 of 3 games
Matthias Lindberg - 34 points in 55 games - Played 1 of 3 games
Rinat Valiev played 2 of 3 games
Nikita Soshnikov - 18 goals - Played 2 of 3 games
Kasperi Kapanen - 25 points in 44 games - Played 2 of 3 games

The team has absurd depth at this point in time.  Doesn't mean that can't still lose a series  ut certainly has options if the team goes cold.

2-3-2 format this time. Albany finished 2nd in the Eastern conference (and 2nd in the league), but 12 points behind the Marlies. I guess the AHL uses the same rivalry format as the NHL does. Gotta build those AHL rivalries!

Good post.

But in Soshnikov's case he is legit injured so that's why he's not in the lineup.

With his season over in Sweden, Andreas Johnson is coming over to join the Marlies. I'm guessing he'll likely be joining the healthy scratches and just getting comfortable with the team, but maybe the coaches will like what they see from him in practice.

Adding to the ridiculous depth. If the team wasn't so deep, we'd probably be seeing a lot more of the Leafs' junior prospects joining them for the playoff run. Still might be a good idea to have them around to practice with the team, learn the systems a little, etc., but, since they won't likely get into any games, it's also understandable why it might not be happening (or, at least, we're not really hearing about it).

I don't think he can play by the rules, but to have him around future teammates in a winning environment, its all good, good, good. :D

That photo of him is pretty laughable.

Can the Leafs enter a second team in the postseason.  Like Marlies Team A and Marlies Team B?
