I thought Hendricks won as well but I will say I can see how it could have went the other way. Round 1 both had take downs, they both landed about the same number strikes. That right there is where the judges could go the other way and GSP wins.

Yeah but to me all things being equal, since it was a pretty even match overall, GSP didn't even put a dent into Hendricks while GSP got clobbered.

I tried to rationalize it yesterday, saying that yes, GSP had a few take downs but both were not significant compared to when GSP tripped over Hendrick's leg and Hendricks had him pinned. Hendricks then let him up (I think it should count against him for doing that) but if Hendricks just stayed on top he would've smashed GSP's face in.

Any word on GSP's future?

No update as of yet. Dana White seems to think his personal problem isn't that bad but hey Dana White talks more then he thinks.

It ended up hinging on Round 1 and I really do think GSP took that round. The only reason he let up on the guillotine is I think he thought Hendricks was tapping. I can't imagine why he would let up on that hold:

Some were saying it was physics. Nobody taps three times due to physics unless they're in an electric chair.

Big shocker in the final prelim fight. Uriah Hall drops Chris Leben in the final 20 seconds of the 1st round. Leben gets saved by the bell, but as he's walking back to his corner he's asking if he got knocked out and says he's done. Ref and the doctor call the fight. Leben is known as one of the toughest guys in the UFC, but to recognize in the middle of a fight that you got your head scrambled takes guts. Even more so when you know going in that a loss means you likely get cut from the UFC.

What a display by Rousey. She is an all-time great. No one can touch her right now.

As for the Silva-Weidman fight -- Chris Weidman just wanted it more. J/k. Horrible ending. At 38, that might be the end to an illustrious career. Sad way to go. He should have drunk more muscle milk (one of Weidman's sponsors).

A Silva .gif - not for the faint of heart...

Someone finally took Rousey past the 1st round. No time off for her though as she was named the main event of UFC 170 at the end of Feb. against Sara McMann.

As for Silva, I remember his title defence against Patrick Cote ending because Cote hurt his right leg when throwing a kick. 1st time I've seen something this bad in the cage though. Have to wonder if "Spider" will come back from this. If he doesn't then the UFC has lost 2 of their most marketable names in the last 3 weeks.

So the landscape at 170 changed when GSP walked away. Tonight, we see the new direction for the division as Lawler and Hendricks face off for the belt in the UFC 171 main event. Good chance we see the next guy in line determined in the co-main if Carlos Condit beats Tyron Woodley. I'm actually looking forward to this card.

I think Hendricks takes it no problem. I don't think he truly lost against GSP so I don't even see this as much of a match for him.

Ya I got Hendricks getting the win tonight as well. Whether he can hold the belt as long as GSP did thats another story.

Cutting weight has been part of the fight game for a long time. However, 2 fighters had to pull out of tonight's UFC 177 PPV on the day of the weigh ins because of issues with their cuts. One of the guys pulled is Renan Barao, who was to face TJ Dillashaw in a rematch for the 135 pound belt. The other one was a former US Olympian who was to make his UFC debut and has had a history of missing weight in other promotions. Makes me think that maybe the weigh ins should be on the day of the fight itself. Maybe then guys would actually fight at a more natural and safer weight.

Replacing Barao will be former Bellator 135 champ Joe Soto who was set to make his UFC debut on the prelims. It was the only other fight at 135 on the card.

Haven't been watching UFC as much lately. Just too many events heck sometimes they have 2 on the same day now. Oversaturated.
