The "Mr. T" Man of the Match Thread, 2013 edition

A few observations:

1.  Goaltending hasn't been nearly good enough.  At this point I would want to see both of these guys to have more than 2 game-winning MotM accolades.

2.  Kessel has been pretty disappointing to judge from the voting, and Grabs and Kulemin very disappointing.

3.  Defensemen get too little love in the votiing.  Thinking maybe they should get an extra 0.5 points for MotMs next year.

4.  McClement's value to the team goes completely unnoticed in this format.

5.  JvR is either a hero or invisible.

I believe you get the most balanced picture in number-of-games-receiving-votes column which gives you pretty decent picture as far as "defencemen love" with Franson being mentioned 11x and Phaneuf 10x, or both the goalies receiving votes in 9 games (almost 60% of games), and also the forwards voting is more balanced with Kadri receiving votes 18x, Kessel 13x, Grabbo 11x, McClement (here you go) 10x, Bozak 9x and Kulemin and JVR 8x. From that perspective Phaneuf/Franson, goalies or Kessel/Grabbo/McClemment/Kuli do not look that bad and easily overtake JVR.

FWIW, I liked Kulemin's game on Saturday too... Even if there might be a stat or two out there that suggests I should think otherwise. As far as ZBBMs observations go;

1. Agreed. I don't think overall it's been awful but it hasn't been great. There's clearly been games where goaltending was the reason for the loss.

2. The thing with Kessel is that I actually like his overall game much more than last year. I think the guy is a little under-appreciated but maybe that's me.

3. Fair point re. the defence and I'd support the change in the scoring system. That said, I haven't been WOWED by anyone back there either this year. The Leafs are no question a better overall team defensively though and I think a lot of that should be credited to Carlyle and a number if forwards buying in. - Kessel included.

4. YES! Totally. I'm guessing the Leafs are on the south side of 8th as opposed to the north without him. I just love this guy. I paid close attention to him live last week and he's just such a tireless worker.

5. When JvR goes to the net, good things happen. It's not always all his fault in those "invisible" games though. I often see him take his position and the Leafs just can't set anything up.Still, you're right though but I suspect the same can be said with a lot of players.

Good points.  Adding that column has made the whole exercise more meaningful.

you shouldn't come into a thread that's done purely in fun and tell people they're picking wrong.

At no point did I tell anyone they where wrong, didn't quote anyone, simply made an observation.

You need to not be so sensitive.
