The "Mr. T" Man of the Match Thread, 2013 edition

I know we are all entitled to our opinion but in a Leaf game where we surrendered 4 PP goals, I have a hard time giving McClement any votes on this day.

They corrected the statistics (something went wrong yesterday as Orr's penalties all count as time the Leafs were SH, and that was not the case).

Power Play Summary
Team PPG / PPO
Toronto 2 of 4
Buffalo 1 of 5

So, MOTM: Kadri, HM: McClement

McClement was on the ice for 2 goals last night and although you can't pin the blame on him necessarily.  I guy that is on this team to be a defensive forward didn't come through last night and he certainly didn't chip in offensively to make up for it.  I just find when the team doesn't play well in a particular game that we tend to throw a bone to fan favourites like McClement or Komorov.  I seen nothing in McClement other than in the FO circle that would warrant a good game last night and he should be held accountable every bit as much as the rest of the Leafs.

You're missing all the back-checks and lifted sticks, etc... This isn't baseball. There's a lot more to hockey then just raw stats.

I watched the game and I love McClement but I didn't see a whole lot of what you mentioned in there.  It wasn't a great game for him certainly not the second best effort on the team, the whole game was a defensive shamble.  The only reason I even mentioned stats was because I figure a lot of times that is what is looked at when people vote and that shouldn't be the case.

Yup, he was on the ice for 2 goals against.  One just after a penalty had ended, and another while still on the PK.  On both, Reimer did not make the save that one would expect (although the first was point blank).  If it weren't for McClement, we probably wouldn't have even gotten a point last night.  He dominated in the faceoff circle and played over 20 minutes of pretty dependable hockey.

You suggest that he doesn't deserve it because aside from the 2 GA he didn't bring any offense.  I wonder why?  On MANY defensive zone faceoffs, as soon as the puck was out of the zone, he was exchanged for the other winger on that line.  And most of the time, that was within 10 seconds of the faceoff, because he's that good in the defensive zone.

So...what? We should judge players not by how they play but what they happen to be on the ice for? Doesn't that sort of contradict your "Yeah, Scrivens isn't getting wins but it's everyone elses fault" stance?

I didn't vote McClement as the goat, I just didn't see him as being the 2nd best Leaf last night.  Like I mentioned, this thread is based on ones opinion so I shouldn't have said anything, I just found it odd he was voted for because I am a fan but didn't feel he brought it last night.  Nik that may seem odd to you seeing as you never pass judgement on anything around here.

3 unanimous MotMs in a row ... could be a very good or a very bad thing, depending.

MotM: Grabovski.  As mentioned by another poster, his best game in awhile.  He was by far our most dangerous man on offense.

HM: Reimer.  He played like a guy you'd want as your starter for the next decade.  8) 8) 8) :o
