How about Komisarek and Connolly for Mike Richards??  Richards is DYING on the Kings.  I think he only has 2 goals in the last 29 games if TSN is correct.

Is Mike done??  Can he rebound??

Actually I was hoping to trade Connolly back to NYI for Matt Martin and a pick...

...I will have to substitute Colby Armstrong to LA with Komisarek for Mike Richards.

OK, here is the serious post:

Mike Richards is not doing well in LA.  I honestly don't know if he would do well in Toronto but people have speculated that he would work well here before.  If he would work out here I am sure his value has NEVER been lower.  What would it take to get him for the #1 center job?

Matt Martin is 4" taller than Mike Brown but also plays a good hard game, plays on the PK, the shut down line and can fight when he has to.  Was the old protector for Stamkos in Sarnia while scoring 35 goals and 30 assists in 61 games on LW.  He is an RFA this summer. NYI has other tough guys (similar to Stewart in St. Louis).

General consensus is we need to dump Komisarek, Connolly and Armstrong by next season.  I was just being a bit nuts and combining the guys who could come in with the guys who should be going out.

Well, the answer to that is pretty simple - much like what it took LA to get Carter from Columbus, it would take a package of similar value to what LA gave up to acquire Richards for another team to obtain Richards.

I don't think they're moving Richards having just recently acquired Carter. I'd think they view them as something of a duo. Moreover, if they were inclined to mover Richards (and again, I'm sure they aren't) I'd say the price for Richards would be a tad more then it was for Carter. - I just think Richards has proven to be the more complete player.

Is Schenn still worth the 5th pick overall?

To the Leafs? Possibly, but, there's a couple pretty significant differences here. Firstly, Schenn was drafted 4 years ago, whereas Richards was traded last summer, and, secondly, prior to this season, Richards has a pretty significant track record of production whereas Schenn's is spotty. A player like Richards doesn't see his trade value drop all that much because of one down season, especially when it's his first with a new team. Carter got Columbus a very comparable return to what he was acquired for, even with his known issues with being in Columbus, his injuries and his down season, why wouldn't Richards?

*throws out idea*

Matt Duchene.  Has dropped to 3rd line status this year and from what I have heard, has spent some time on the wing too. Granted, he has had some significant time lost due to injury but its been more than just that.  I would assume they want to be patient with him but the right package might entice them to let him go, with O'Reilly passing him on the depth chart and Stastny playing better this year.  He is RFA this summer as well and after a rough season it might be challenging for the low-payroll Avs to come to an agreement with him.

Might be a bargain moment to get in there and buy relatively low.  Maybe a Bozak + Schenn package.

edit: forgot to mention that half their dang team is a free agent this summer.  They will be spending money, like it or not, to put a team together.  They might consider moving out a guy they probably feel would end up overpaid to keep happy.

I doubt it. I think if they were inclined to move a centre, it would be Stastny and his 6.6 mil. over the next 2 years. If we could send an equal amount of salary back, he'd be a guy I'd be interested in. I've been thinking about Phaneuf (6.5 x 2) + Bozak (1.5 x 1) for Stastny (6.6 x 2) + O'Bryne (1.8 x 1) - A virtual even swap of cap dollars and term.

An equal exchange of salaries perhaps, but not of player value.

I think we probably win that exchange.

I think you're right... I'd be open to evening it out with a pick or prospect.

Use our 5th pick (I'm assuming?) and Bozak/Kule? for Getzlaf?
Trade Schenn for Dustin Brown like it was rumoured at the deadline?
Sign Chris Kelly, one of the better 3rd line centers in the league (fast, good PKer, good offense)?
Sign Prust?  We need a tough guy who can take a regular shift and if we go down, I want to go down swinging!

Lupul-Getzlaf-Kessel
Kadri-Grabovski-D.Brown
Mac-Kelly-Frattin
Prust-Steckal-Brown

ummm, at all plausible?

I like the Schenn for Brown deal. I also like the UFA signings but the Getzlaf deal? What does that leave Anaheim with at centre?

Bozak?  I know, I know...

I was simply throwing it out there.  He only has 1 year left on his deal... and he had a pretty downer year for his potential production (9 goals any way you slice it is pretty brutal).  I was just hoping here.

Oh god, don't tease me with thoughts of Getzlaf!  :'(

Throw in a solid veteran goalie and we have a team!

I don't know, for whatever reason even that list of forwards doesn't instill me with a heck of a lot of confidence.

Berger suggests (I think he's just speculating but who knows) that Columbus wants the Leafs' first pick this year plus Gardiner and Kadri for Nash.

No dice in my mind but curious what others think?

I wouldn't do it sight unseen but if the pick comes around and there's nobody there the team really likes I'd think about it.

Iin such a case Columbus can enjoy that nice fat contract of Rick Nash

I might do it if they take connolly to offset some of the salary but it ultimately depends where the pick ends up.

in other words it would be waaaaaaayyyyyyy easier to trade #6-8 than #2-4 in my opinion.
