The Official Movie Thread

Just saw the first trailer for the new version of "Dune".  It looks great and like this epic is finally being told by someone who captures the essence of the book.
Yeah it looks promising. Ive gotten so excited I'm re-reading the book for the first time in like 25 years. Forgot how damn good it is.

Did anyone see Tenet? I left... unimpressed. It's like Nolan's goal was to prove how clever he is rather than make a comprehensible movie. The last half an hour reminded me of a benny hill sketch.

I've yet to build up the confidence to go back and sit in a cinema.

But I did manage to see Bill and Ted and it was most excellent. It's an absolute mess, but it's exactly what you want and expect and amusing and entertaining and kind of.... warm. And it even brings things up to date, so to speak.

If you liked the originals it's great. If not I imagine it'll be terrible for you.

Ya I am going to read them again as well, for the 6th time, the entire string of Franks books. And some of his son's sequels and prequels as well.  Its a great universe.

I read a bunch of the prequel books and got tired of them as they were too convenient.  He seemed to want to directly tie in characters from thousands of years in the past to the current Dune story. I never read from "Paul of Dune" onward in terms of the releases he did.

I thought it was great.  Pretty much exactly what I wanted out of a Bill and Ted movie

The new Bond movie has been delayed until next year. Joining, well, everything else.

Gonna have to wait a little longer for Dune as well now.

Pixar's Soul and Wonder Woman 1984 are basically the only big movies left on the release schedule this year. And only a matter of time before those get delayed too (or in case of Soul, maybe moved to Disney+).

The new Borat movie was very nice.  Cohen has better social commentary I think with his last TV show than this movie but I liked it.

I just finished the Borat movie a few minutes ago. I don?t know what to make of that Giuliani scene, it?s almost too ridiculous to be real but at the same time he seems daft enough to have actually fallen for this.

Anyway worth watching.

I didn?t think they could top the hotel wrestling scene, but I think the debutante ball did it

It all felt too fake for me, I turned it off half way through.

I didn't even see the Giulliani bit.

I watched it last night. I thought it was pretty bad.

It's not that I can be accused of being highbrow, I thought Johnny Knoxville's "Bad Grampa" was hilarious, but when people go on about Cohen being some sort of modern day andy kaufmann/comic genius, I'm clearly missing it.

the debutante ball scene was the only one I actually thought was pretty cringeworthy.  Most of it was pretty funny, pretty telling in places. The plastic surgeon creeped me out. The pro-lifer pastor creeped me out too. Thought SBC's co star was absolutely fantastic, she stole it. And Giuliani claims they edited it; he was tucking his shirt back into his pants after they took off the microphone, which was conveniently edited out. SO he says anyway. lol....
As a satirist and social commentary-ist (sue me, I made up a word), SBC is fabulous.

I'm a little torn. I think there's a lot of value in what Cohen does and what he wants to say but I don't know that there's a ton of comedic value in saying it as much as he does. Better as a piece of agitprop than a conventional movie.

Just finished watching it.  It certainly didn't have the same charm as the first movie did, but it nonetheless had a few laugh out loud moments.  I enjoyed it.

SBC said that he was inspired by Ian Kershaw's quote that the road to Auschwitz was paved by indifference. I thought it was a pretty good commentary on American society right now and obviously it skews one way but I was entertained.

I think I was slightly underwhelmed by it. There were a handful of laugh out loud bits but I don't know I think overall it just didn't really have a point. I also remember watching this clip below before I watched the movie and thought what happened there was very interesting and was hoping the movie was really going to expand on that and was pretty disappointed to find it was cut from the movie entirely. I think if they focused more on exposing/trolling OAN the movie might have came together more. I really wonder why all of that was cut out.
