Mr. Leiweke has an outstanding track record of growth and success in a professional sports business career spanning more than 30 years. Before moving to Los Angeles to join the Kings as President in 1996 (becoming President and CEO of AEG Worldwide in 2001), he served as President and CEO of U.S. Skiing. Previously he spent four seasons as President of the NBA's Denver Nuggets, where he also played a leading role in the development of the Pepsi Center. In 1988, Mr. Leiweke was the first employee hired by the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves, serving as Vice President of the team as well as handling naming rights, marketing and sales for all events at the Target Center, before moving to Denver in 1991. A native of St. Louis, he began his pro sports career in 1979 as Assistant General Manager of the St. Louis Steamers of the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Woah.  The rumor came true.

Quite the choice. Bold move by MLSE.

Also.. kind of glad Anselmi is no longer the main man at the helm.  He has no track record of any kind of success.  Plus he looks like he should be selling used cars.

He was the former CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group. They own the Kings, the Galaxy, part of the Lakers and the L.A. Live entertainment complex.

Fixed it for you.

He does look like I imagine a hitman would look.

Yeah that's fair.  Or a dirty cop or something.

He's been around a lot of success lately.  Looking forward to seeing him try and bring the same to the city of Toronto.

Had a chuckle at this on his Wiki page that was entered by probably some sly Raptors fan: "Most likely will fire Bryan Colangelo for ruining the game of Basketball for Toronto fans" haha

I'm not sure, but I suspect Colangelo is a little unconfortable with this change, considering his record and contractual situation.

Yeah, well Bryan can cry himself to sleep at night wearing one of his $3000 custom suits.

Some twitter chatter that he may be the guy in place now to hand the keys over to Phil Jackson. Apparently Jackson want complete control of a franchise and Leiweke could give it to him. Any truth to this?

I don't know, but I suppose it was no coincidence that the CP24 ticker is reporting that Jackson is in talks with a few NBA teams with regards to a front office position.

I just don't see it. If the board were really interested in making a change with the Raps Idon't think they would have approved the Rudy Gay deal.

I don't think MLSE would pass up the chance to have Phil Jackson just because they let BC acquire Gay. I also don't think BC's a lock to stay, but given the time frame, he will likely start the season as GM at the very least. Can't imagine Leiweke will tolerate another losing team though.

According to TSN, sources have said that MLSE has extended an invitation to Wayne Gretzky for a possible executive position within the organization, by way of discussions between current MLSE president Tim Lieweke and Gretzky himself.

Quick text conversation with Wayne Gretzky, says there's NO truth to rumours he's been offered a Sr. position with MLSE.

The biggest reason for this has always been that the corridors the Platinum lounge folks use to access their seats get blocked off several minutes before the start of the period because the players cross through that area to get back to the ice.  I think it's about 3-4 minutes in duration. So if they don't beat that cut off, they are stuck down there until the first whistle.

I've been down there once, and believe me if you aren't keeping an eye on the countdown clock you have no clue how much time you have.  It feels very isolated from the game itself inside those lounges.  I got to my seat in time but I was so stoked to be sitting where I was I didn't care about the sushi or the vendor who brought me there.  :D
