Source tells me there's a "very big chance" Wayne Gretzky will become a top executive in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.
Nik the Trik said:I think the problem that's always existed with the Gretzky to Toronto rumours has been that it's never really been explained what he'd actually be doing and I think that's in part because there's really nowhere he fits. He's not a successful business executive so it seems unlikely that the heavily corporate MLSE is going to bring him in and give him any real authority in that sense and he doesn't have a great record as a sports executive so it seems unlikely that they'd give him any sort of authority over Nonis or the hockey team so what does that leave? Some sort of out-front community role maybe but, I mean, honestly if you're Wayne Gretzky do you want to leave what I'm sure is a pretty nice retirement to...cut ribbons and kiss babies? Gretzky, to his credit, seems like a guy who would want to actually do something.

Was only a matter of time although I figured he would be pushed and not jump. Was probably given the option.
Not a fan of Anselmi once he was given power over the actual teams. His record with TFC was beyond abysmal. I think he did a lousy job of handling the Burke firing and was a bit spineless with the board.

This news has gone over well on some soccer forums I visit. He gets a lot of blame for TFC's lack of success.

?I knew the Leafs were important but I didn?t know they were this important. I understand the passion for those damn pictures now.?
I guess, to experience opening night, Saturday night in Toronto must be an eye-opener for a guy from southern California, eh?

I guess I'll give him credit for his mistake, but, really, shouldn't he have made more of an effort to get to know what he was dealing with before he started making his pronouncements?
