Longtime NHL scout @GPSHOCKEY's Top 10 for 2012 Yakupov, Forsberg, Dumba, Murray, Teravainen, Grigorenko, Ceci, Reinhart, Galchenyuk, Rielly

Probably the most different order I've seen in a while...

Edit: Though I know this isn't a mock.

The rankings seem to be all over the map this year which tells me that every team's list has the poetential to look very different.

I think this could be one of the most unpredictable drafts in a while with lots of movement up and down.

i read somehere that Grigorenko battled mononucleosis this year , which would certainly explain his low energy level.
Either Galchenyuk Forsberg or Grigorenko would be a great pick at #5.
If we actually had a choice of two of the above , not sure which I?d pick , now that I know grigorenko had had mono.

Fair assumption Yakupov won't be there and from what I know (which is more than extremely limited) I guess I'd be happy with Forsberg, Dumba, Murray, Grigorenko, Galchenyuk, or Teravainen at #5 though Teravainen's size scares me and he does seem kind of like a pet cat at this point.

Love the comments after the article. One fan proposes we trade Schenn , Kadri and Reimer to NJ for Parise. Since Parise is UFA , does seem a bit much LOL

I'm hoping we get Dumba. I know most people think we have enough D men already, but this is exactly the type of defenseman Burke covets. I think we can get a centreman through trade using some of our excess defensemen and prospects.

Audio from the FAN590 today with Nail Yakupov & Alex Galchenyuk.

Galchenyuk mentions he hears all the rumours of Toronto, says it's a great city...the people go crazy about hockey and Toronto would be good.

Dumba was probably the first favourite prospect in this draft (if that makes any sense.)

I just don't believe Dumba will truly be the best player available at 5. For much of the season, the rankings have had him seemingly interchangeable with Trouba and Rielly - and neither of them are top 5 talents either, from what I can tell. I'm hoping for Forsberg. A lot of reports have him as the 2nd best forward in the draft, but, there's definitely a chance he could still be around at 5.

With the offensive minded options up front and even on defense likely to be available, passing on all of that to take the big least risk / least reward choice in Dumba doesn't seem like the right choice.

That's part of it as well. The Leafs aren't going to improve to the level we want them to by making super safe choices like that. While I don't want them to go for boom or bust guy, they need to take the risk on someone with a higher ceiling. There's already a safe #5 pick on the blueline.
