TOP 5 PICK!!!

Brian Glennie said:
I just watched the Cherry interview with the first-rounders and if Brian Burke is still checking into this board may I suggest, kind sir, that you trade down.

Because adding 2 or 3 okay prospects is better than adding one really good one?

Why?  You didn't like their answers?

Isn't it amazing how one 15 second clip and a couple questions from Don Cherry can tell you so much more than months and months of scouting?

I think Glennie might have been joking lads, at least I hope so.

Quick question, not that it matters much, but anyone know why Galchenyuk has such a thick Russian accent given he's an American?

He was born here, grew up here and was educated here, other than at home I doubt he was exposed to the accent much so I don't know why he'd speak with such a strong accent.

He's lived in 4 countries and speaks 3 languages. Of the 4 countries, Russia was one of them and I'm guessing it was there where he first learned language as an infant and toddler?

Where are these vids you speak of?

TSN had a hour of live (I think it was live) coverage at the combine a couple nights ago.. Galchenyuk was interviewed and my initial reaction was " 6'2" my ass!"  Also, he was interviewed last night on HNIC with 5 other potential top picks guys and again, he seemed rather smallish comparatively - to me.

Here's a picture of most of that group;

He doesn't look any taller than Yakupov and I don't think he's 6'0'. Grigorenko towers over him and it was my understanding Galchenyuk was only an inch (or so) smaller. I also though Galchenyuk had an inch or so on Forsberg. Anyway, it isn't a huge deal. I'd like to see the combine measurements though. - Just for my own curiosity's sake.

Good info on the team's board. RT @Bob_Stauffer: Oilers are down to 5 players for #1 pick: Yakupov, Grigorenko, Forsberg, Murray, Reinhart

Reinhart just has to be there @ 5, no? Maybe there is a Edmonton/Toronto deal to be had then.

Maybe, but, my guess is it would take something substantial to get them to forego Yakupov or Murray in favour of Reinhart. I have my doubts they do much more than flip picks with Columbus.

That's where I'm at too... though this Reinhart certainly had me thinking about it again.

I'll eat my hat if Reinhart goes in the top 5.

Per the photo above, Murray is listed 6'0, Forsberg 6'2... doesn't seem like a stretch to me that Galchenyuk is 6'0 + ( he seems to be leaning into the shot some too)... and Yakupov has to be standing on a box or grew a bit.

I read Gally was 6'2" but it's obvious he isn't. That's all I'm saying.

The espn list is where I took those other two from and they had him at 6'1, fwiw, not that there's a world of difference.

... TSN has Yakupov @ 5'10" so, yeah, I'm not so sure Gally is 6'0" or 5'11" either. Sure, they're kids and some grow and varying heights (some won't.) Like I said, this doesn't matter much and because Gally is much shorter than we (or at least I) thought it doesn't mean I've soured on him either. Like I said, I just wish we could see the combine weigh-ins just to have a better handle because the heights/weights from various sources seem to be all over the place.
