The name struck fear in me at first but I've gotten quite good at saying it now.

Der Are Gu Chint Sev!

My trip up was always trying to put too much emphasis between Der and Are, when it sounds like they're supposed to flow into each other almost like one syllable (I think that's where ZBBM thought the announcers were slathering it all together, but they were doing it right).

I think the proper pronunciation is <mumble>Chintzev

How about Bob? Can we call him Bob?  Nice, simple, short, easy to pronounce.

Not exactly a surprise, but if there was some sort of battle for the 4C spot then it's over now.

Goodbye Goat Man.

Back-up goalie (McBackup isn't making this an easy decision) and 6D (Carrick seems to have played himself out of that spot) are still up for grabs.

Vincent LoVerde eh?

He hasn't played in any pre-season games (I believe), so he's likely just a placeholder. One of Carrick/Borgman/Holl probably replace him. Appears as though Oz has the leg up on all of them though.

Your PP units to start the season:

Nylander of course replaces either Ennis or Leivo when signed on the 2nd unit.

Dermott is ramping back up after a minor shoulder injury, so he's 4th pair at the moment.

Seems like Leivo's being given every chance to make the team.

After Leivo, our NHL-ready forward depth takes a pretty big hit. It's guys like Bracco and Grundstrom and Engvall who clearly still need AHL seasoning.

The only question for Leivo now is who sits when Nylander signs: him or Ennis?

If you base it on pre-season, the answer is clear.

Is it? Admittedly I haven't watched too much of pre-season, especially the games Ennis has played. I don't get the sense that either are exactly dominating.

I'm in the same boat. I've seen both play, but haven't followed the pre-season too closely. Both looked decent to me. My leaning is to Leivo, but I'm somewhat partial to his style of play.

It's not clear to me either.

Ennis has done well with Marleau-Matthews, but Nylander's getting that spot eventually and I don't think the Leafs really plan to have another line that plays the way the Marleau-Matthews line will play.

So I really don't know if Ennis would be a great fit on the 3rd or 4th lines. I think, as long as Nylander's holding out, Hyman's injured, and they're trying to determine whether to go with Ennis or Leivo on the 3rd/4th line, they should cycle through some options at left wing. Put Leivo with Tavares-Marner and Lindholm-Kapanen, Ennis with Kadri-Brown and Lindholm-Kapanen. Heck, Kapanen could get some time with Matthews.

I get the need to give the star duos some time to build chemistry, but with wings missing from the top 2 lines, it seems a pretty decent opportunity to see what they've got in these various plug-and-play wingers that make up the bottom 9.

Leafs Report touched on this. Matthews? idea here is that the top unit now has even more options that a PK unit cannot slack off on. Same deal with moving Marleau up with Matthews too (to create space). Marleau?s style complements a fast, pass-happy style. Hyman complements a heavy puck holding below the circles style.
