Was having "McCement" in that lineup meant to be a dig?

Sarcasm, right? The reality is it's the other way. Those four pieces are not enough for Weber.

The only solace we can take out of this is that as great as Weber is, he was selected with a compensatory pick 49th over all. In fact even Nashville themselves drafted Suter and Klein a head of Weber that draft. Weber wasn't projected 1st overall or even in the top 10.
Hopefully the huge scouting and elite management team can pull off a similar heist just once a decade.

I would pursue this trade, certainly not giving them as much as you have, but Gudbranson is a good target. You would be buying a tad low, as I don't think Gudbranson is where he should be. The question is, do you think Gudbranson will be a star?
Trading for Weber would gut our team of too many young parts to call us a playoff contender I think.
That would leave the lineup:
JVR / Bozak / Kessel
Kulemin / Holland / Clarkson
D'Amigo / Bolland / Leivo
McLaren / McCement / Orr
Rielly / Weber
Phaneuf / Gudbranson
Gunnarsson / Gleason
Bernier
Clemmenson

The secret discussions between Dave Nonis and Ray Shero, on the trade of Sidney Crosby:
Shero: "Okay, Dave, for starters, we're going to need between 0 and 1 first round picks. I think we're pretty much determined that it has to be 1 first round pick."
Nonis: "Okay, Ray, we can handle that."
Shero: "Our second demand: we're going to need an NHL-ready forward prospect, somebody with some upside. No older than 19."
Nonis: "How about Peter Holland? He's only 23."
Shero: "Perfect! Now, we're also going to need a defenseman, somebody with big offensive potential, a spotless injury record, and lots of playoff experience."
Nonis: "Carl Gunnarsson's your man. 4-goal, 20-point potential, no non-groin injuries whatsoever, and a sweet 7 games of intense playoff seasoning."
Shero: "Yeah, that's who I'm talking about! Now last, I'm going to need a smallish late bloomer overage junior player who can rock the OHL with no offensive support. Tell me you have such a player..."
Nonis: ".... no, I don't..."
Shero: "Damn! The deal is off, Nonis!"
Nonis: "Wait a second, is Connor Brown too big for your needs?"
Shero: "Maybe not.... who's he playing with?"
Nonis: "Some no-name who just turned 17 yesterday. What do you think, do we have a deal?"
Shero: "Hmmmm.... You drive a hard bargain, Nonis, but I'll do it. A GM can't turn down that once-in-a-lifetime kind of package."
Nonis: "And to think I almost traded them all merely for Shea Weber!"

"I could see a Nashville trade for Weber easily being Lupul, Kadri, Gardiner and a 1st for Weber."
Still not enough in my opinion. For Weber it would have to be Rielly not Gardiner and JVR not Lupul.

This was only under the assumption that they're trading him because of the money issues. JVR is a great caphit, Reilly is as cheap as it gets, a 1st is a given and ours isn't too shabby a position, and finally Kadri... well he's a mixed bag. Maybe something like Bolland or Bozak instead if they wanted. Gauthier even. Whatever center they want on our team is what I'm saying.Nik the Trik said:losveratos said:To be fair... Even then though, if you were Nashville's GM, wouldn't you look at that collection of assets and say that, individually, you could probably acquire those 4, or something equivalent, in other ways but there was basically no way to acquire a Shea Weber?

Ah, fair point, I hadn't considered that. I hope you're right in the interests of somewhat reality-based discussion, but I also simultaneously hope you're wrong in the interests of comedic discussion.

That was real good. Are you secretly DownGoesBrown?

If they don't need/want to trade him. Then I would assume that the talk starts at Kessel and ends somewhere very uncomfortable.
princedpw said:I think Kulemin is going to get more than $3 million. Offensively, he's a lot like Clarkson, but better defensively. Plus, teams have an insane amount of cap space this offseason due to the big increase.
Tigger said:A rough template for next year, barring whatever you could get in a trade for Reimer and Franson... if they want to they'll only be able to keep one from the looks of that ... and yeah, I just dumped the face punchers. They have room to make some deals.
