Is that a pic of the great one, Secritarit?

Great interpretation, wish I had thought of that.  I'm not sure if it is or isn't.

But actually, I was just suggesting that the "do anything to sign Komorov" brigade hold onto their ponies a bit.

Oh, I thought you were suggesting something else.

Nonis: "Come on, Leo.  Be reasonable."
Komarov: "No! I want $4 million or I go back to KHL."
Nonis: "I can't go higher than $2.5 million, 3 years."
Komarov: "No!"
Nonis: "$2.5 million and a pony?"
Komarov: "......... Two ponies."
Nonis: "Deal."

;D

I mean, who could ever say no to a pony??!

I would get rid of Ranger before I get rid of Gleason... Gleason brings more of a team game for someone on the 3rd pairing.

Yeah . . . no. Ranger's a better player and will come on a much cheaper contract.

I disagree. As the season wore on Gleason seemed to get worse, and Ranger better. I think Ranger was just beginning to find his game at this level near the end of the season. He could turn out to be a pretty good D man next year. Gleason is, well Gleason.

I appreciate what you're trying to do here but if these are the sorts of fantasy line-ups we're putting together at this point we might as well all take up another hobby for the next five or six years.

If the last 9 years has taught me anything it's that this is way beyond a hobby.

Nonis is more interested in making the playoffs, Shanahan has claimed the team doesn't need to be stripped and refitted, so I know I won't get what I want, the full monty rebuild.

Anywho, 5 year plan 5 year schman, it's all I have.

In that construction keeping Gleason puts them over the cap guess I've made, but I'm not sure they could trade him even if they retained 25% of his salary.

The problem for the Leafs is they have too many Gleason's on the team.  Guys who on their own are ok-decent players but are paid well above their ability.  Gleasons is a decent 3rd pairing defensemen paid like a top 4 defenseman.

When you look at the comparables for 4 million dollar cap hit defenseman, it isn't pretty.

I think a buyout is the only option for him...

Just curious but does anyone think the Leafs could get two firsts from Florida for Kessel? (14/15)

Also, would Edmonton entertain a 2015 first in a package for Phaneuf?

What could Lupul be worth?

Seeing as it's not likely the Leafs will do any of that this is somewhat rare ( hot ) air but heck, if we're going 'fantasy', let's go all in.

I don't think Florida would trade the 1st overall for Kessel. They might be willing to trade their next year's first but I'd imagine that just about nobody will trade their '15 first rounder without protecting themselves from potentially losing McDavid.

I don't think Florida makes that kind of deal right now, regardless of value. They seem pretty content to do things a little more slowly and only make the big deals when they fall into their lap (like Luongo did).

Edmonton's hard to read. They need top pairing defencemen, no question, and if any team can ever afford to sacrifice a top pick, it would be them. If Ekblad is off the board, that might just be a move they consider. I don't think it happens, but, I don't think it's exceptionally far fetched.

Yeah, probably, especially since the lottery went the way it did. There might be a way to sweeten the pot but I don't know. I mean, the Islanders could have chosen to keep this years pick and I don't think the next one was protected ( it's not how it went down, still ).

I'm not sure about Tallon and ownership there though, they might be looking to make a splash.

Like you say, it's not far fetched but it might all depend on the state of the draft at their position. I doubt they're giving up their pick this year but I've been trying to see a way to that one too, haven't found it. Maybe taking some salary back?

I think they might be more likely to give up this year's pick than next year's. If Ekblad doesn't drop to them, they'd probably value a top pairing defenceman more than the forwards that would be available. Next year's draft looks to be deeper than this year's, and with their luck, Edmonton really still has to be wary about that pick being at the top of the draft - and I don't think the Leafs make the move if there's much protection on the pick.

Honestly, as much as I like and respect Kessel...I think teams with a 1st overall pick are aiming higher.

Figure out which Marlies could sort of fill in a Leaf's skates.  Then trade, even if it's abit one-sided to any team that might end up higher in the draft.  1st overall, voila!
