Winnik traded to Pittsburgh

LeBrun says the Leafs are actually interested in seeing what Sill has to offer down the stretch, so, they obviously felt there was value there.

... was this supposed to make me feel better? ;)

I think the interesting question is would you rather have LA's first or Nashville's first.

On the whole? Probably Nashville's. I don't think there's a big difference though and I don't think that's a choice anyone had in front of them.

Just speculating who received the better first round pick.

So the NHL moved the trade deadline to today?

Whatever happened to "we're going to wait until the deadline to get the best deal"?

I guess the second rounder is okay but it means waiting until 2016 unless we can trade it as part of a package. The fourth rounder is meh (we aren't the Red Wings when it comes to later round picks) unless we can package it.

As for the player (who dat?) Marlies material I suppose.

Count me as largely unimpressed other than it beats what we got for Kuleman & Raymond as pmrules has pointed out.

If this team is truly rebuilding then this is the kind of deal they need to be making.

Deep draft this year and they'll likely stink again next year so a 2nd is great. Next year could be a good draft, it's likely too early to tell.

Good news everyone!

Button said the Pens got the better of the deal, which means the Leafs clearly won  8)

How much were you expecting to get for Winnik?

A Justin Azevedo-type at least.

I'll give Sill one thing, he's a pretty funny hockey player.

I had to laugh, if I was Dion I would have said "you sure you're going to get a shift?  I'll be out here all night waiting for you to get a shift."

If Sill can skate a regular 4th line shift, throw some knuckles from time to time and fill in on the PK every now and again he's not the worst guy to bring in on a short-term basis.

Couple of picks and a warm body to fill out the rest of the season. Not a bad haul.

I'm with you, and I think that's the consensus here.  We didn't really need the body, but, meh, whatever.

He's definatly got a fiery personality that could rub off on the younger Marlies players. Not sure if he'll be going out for steak dinners with Captain Bodie right away. lol.

He and Komarov on a line together would be fun to watch.  Pretty funny video.

Does it strike anyone else as maybe being a touch odd that Winnik was worth a second and a fourth and Santorelli was only worth a prospect that, charitably, is about equivalent to a second? Or is this further evidence of just how unwilling teams are to part with 1st rounders and that trade was more of a package deal than we've assumed?

I think the latter question is what happened there. Not a lot of first rounders have moved in recent years. It usually takes something fairly significant to get one.
