Yeah, Sandstrom is in net, he's the youngest of the goalies so I figure this is just giving him a taste of what is to come next year.

Bit of a rude awakening though.

Also, just saw McKenzie's rankings for the upcoming draft there, I have a hard time ranking Gauthier above Nylander. Gauthier looks like he has a great shot, but is this another case of scouts overvaluing size?

I really didn't notice Gauthier out there ever, so that's pretty surprising. If anything I figured that Nylander's tournament really cemented his place in the top-6.

I certainly don't know Gauthier too well, but there's some red flags out there to me. Even ignoring his size. He had a hell of a 16-year old season in the Q, but I wonder how much of that was team-effects. He was still 5th on team scoring and 3 of the guys had huge leads on him. Again, as a 16-year old that's still crazy impressive but not something that should cement his place in the top-10 2 years later.

This season he's scoring at a slightly higher pace but he only has 8 assists in 30 games (and 29 goals). That assist total is a big red-flag to me. And again, 5th on team scoring (everyone ahead of him is older though).
 
Team USA knocks out Team Sweden for the Bronze with an 8-3 drubbing.  The US led by Michael Tkachuk's two goals, simply overwhelmed a 'depleted' Swedish lineup.

Yeah, it was a consensus list based on his sources that had Gauthier at #5 and Nylander at #6.

The Finns held the Russian without a shot for the first four minutes, the Finn goalie then takes an over the glass/delay of game penalty and the Russians score with their first shot on the PP.

1-0 to the USSR ;)
 
There's something the NHL could look to for a small increase in scoring, score on a 6 on 5 penalty delay, you still go on the PP.
 
I have thoroughly enjoyed this first period, very intense and the crowd has been amazing. It's a national holiday in Finland tomorrow so these spectators have come for a party!
 
Yeah, good game so far, though the Finns better watch out, if they get too many more power plays the Russians could really run up the score...

Looked to me like he just side-stepped a hit and the Russian player knocked himself out of position (though I am sort of bouncing back and forth between it and work so maybe I missed it fully).
