2011-2012 NHL Thread

Sarge I have never put this out there because I certainly would be rediculed for it but in the games I have seen Getzlaf play in Phoenix the last several years this is actually how he plays everytime.  He rarely exerts much energy and looks like a very lazy player.  I never see him skate hard and rarely engages in a physical game.  I guess now that the points aren's coming and team is crappy everyone is starting to point this out.

I've noticed it before but he's never been this bad.  He's exerting even less energy and effort AND he's not generating anything offensively.

It's as if he's trying not to play well.  Lazy, uninspired, effortless... just beyond bad lately.

He obviously has the talent to turn it around, but I think his drive is in real question now.

Sabres lost again tonight / Caps won again...is Ruff going to last the season / looks like the Caps are starting to get it together

I don't know what the deal is really.  I just through BB out there as a possibility. OV certainly didn't flourish under him

Ovechkin had some incredible offensive production under Boudreau.  Back-to-back-to-back 50 goal seasons/109+ point seasons.

Fair enough... Though arguably, he eventually tuned him out and this year has been not so incredible statistically for OV.

I'm not watching a ton of Ducks games but considering that guys like Perry, Ryan and Hiller have also had lousy seasons I'm probably more inclined to think there's something going on there teamwide as opposed to just Getzlaf.

Selanne is still playing great, but that just reinforces my belief that he's a cyborg.

A Ref also amde an accusation against Shane Doan in Montreal a few years ago and was not proven to be true.  Doan even went as far as to hire a Lawyer to sue a Que politician for some of his actions.

I's not sure why this even becomes an issue.  The game of hockey is not really played in the real world and is certainly played at the NHL level by very strong minded people who say nasty things about each others wives, mothers and so on on a nightly basis.  Why is it so much worse to call a black guy the N word than to call his wife or mother a whore???  Players should just shut up about what happens on the ice and stop making the ice a PC environment.

That's not really true. For one thing, nothing was proven either way regarding the Doan incident as their lawsuits were settled out of court. According to the terms of the settlement, as far as I found here it seems as though Doan admitted the slurs were made and that Coderre was justified in taking the stand he did. Doan maintains that he was wrongly accused as the one who made the remark in question but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer on that.

Here is what I wrote and this is absolutely true.  No one ever testified to Doan making these comments and Doan has denied steadfastly that he ever made such comments.  Kyper has tweeted today that it was not a specific name but rather a comment that NHL must determine an interpretation for???

That's different from proof though. The settlement leaves us with no definitive answer as to whether or not Doan said what he was accused of.

As to whether or not you think the NHL has a responsibility to stamp out racial slurs, from a financial motivation or just a human one, well that's up to you.
