From the Kazakh league...how long before this happens to someone over here?

Ertis Pavlodar forward Dmitri Uchaykin, 33, died today at the hospital where he was hospitalised on March 29 after the received a violent charge on the head by Lithuanian Donatas Kumeliuskas during Kazakh League playoffs semifinal game between Ertis and Arystan Temirtau. According the first informations, Uchaykin after the hit left the ice by himself and passed the night at home, but in the early morning he felt sick and was immediately taken to hospital where he arrived in coma. After two days unconscious, he died at 04.00 AM this morning for a brain hemorrage.

Federation still hasn't taken any decision about Kumeliauskas' charge. Ertis asked to postponed today's game. On April 02 a requiem will be realized at Pavlodar Ice Arena. Uchaykin leaves a pregnant wife and a daughter. Born in Khabarovsk, he spent almost all his career in Amur, playing also for Yugra, Gazovik Tyumen and Yermak Angarsk. From 2010 he played in Ertis.

On behalf of Eurohockey.com, our sincere condolences to Dmitri's family

Sean Avery --> "Fire this CLOWN, his players hate him and wont play for his BS...."

is that the pot calling the kettle black?

Very true, but I also wonder how much truth there is to Avery's comment.

I think with a coach like that who always gives the stick and not the carrot, he has a certain shelf-life before players eventually tune him out.

SIDNEY CROSBY UPDATE: Out indefinitely after having surgery Saturday for a broken jaw.

EDIT: Paul Martin also out for six weeks after undergoing surgery on a broken hand.

According to Shero there are no signs of concussion and the broken jaw didn't require wiring shut which hopefully means it's not as bad as it could have been.

ANA outshooting CLB 12-0 in third period. 1-1 game. #Bobrovsky

I love that Philly just cannot get it right when it comes to goalies.

I really want the Blue Jackets to make the playoffs, while the Rangers miss, win the lottery and see the pick they gave up for Nash end up 1st overall.

God the seedings system suck at present, without division leader seeding protection, they'd be a bubble playoff team.

Pretty good deal for the 6th place team, getting to take on a team that would be in 8th place (or worse, they are helped with crappy/easy division opponents).

Raw deal for 5th, for being ahead of the 6th place team they get rewarded with a harder opponent like the Boston Bruins.

Who'd have thought all of Tampa, Washington and Carolina would flame out so hard though?  I mean you could've guessed one or two, but all of them?  Especially Tampa with the start they had.

The seeding situation does suck.  It looks likely that more than 1/2 the time, the 4th seed will be better than the 3rd seed and consequently, the 6th seed is in a more advantageous position than the 5th seed.  Reasoning:

-- delete the top team in each of the top 2 divisions in the conference.
-- you are left with 13 teams:  5 from the 3rd division and 8 from the top 2 divisions
-- assuming uniform strength of schedule (a questionable assumption), there's an 8/13 chance the next best team comes from a division already represented and a 5/13 chance the next best team comes from a division not represented

Canucks signed Higgins to a 4 year extension at 2.5 AAV.

Leaving them with $1,372,500 of cap room with 15 players under contract for next season.

Looks mighty fine on them too. Certainly increases the "bag of pucks" for Luongo's contract possibility. Gillis was already backtracking here last night about trading him now vs the offseason.

Anyone think they'll buy out Ballard and Booth?  You're allowed 2 freebie buyouts right?

That'd be my guess. If they can trade Luongo without taking on much in salary back and all of a sudden they'll be in not good shape but manageable shape.

I think Ballard is pretty much a lock. Booth is more questionable. He may not be healthy by the deadline to use them this summer (which would mean they can't without his consent) and they desperately need the cap space pretty much right away. He certainly hasn't worked out for them, though.
