A shootout win catapults Washington from 10th to 3rd.

Wow. I completely wrote them off. Facing the 3rd seed might not be so ideal anymore.

Ovie has really turned it on.  His goal total has soared to one of the league leaders.

No surprise here.  Ovechkin finished fifth in scoring overall last season, and seventh the season before that.

He may not be an elite player as he was once, but at 27, he still has a lot of hockey and scoring left in him.

Aaron Ward says Jimmy Howard is on the verge of signing a 6 year extension worth ~5.3M AAV.

Not a bad deal.

I have no basis for this besides a gut feeling, but I thought Detroit would go after Miller come the summer.

Guess they're happy enough with Howard, the devil you know and all that, but based on his stats and a fair number of NHL games, he has solid numbers.

He does have respectable numbers. But I've never been completely sold on him. The Wings front office, who have obviously seen him a heck of a lot more than I, and have managed to do a pretty darn good job, must see something in him to make that kind of commitment.

I'm the same as you, I haven't seen that much of him but my opinion has always been he's not a level "A" type goalie you think of right away.  His numbers this year are pretty good considering the Wings D is way worse than it was when Lidstrom was on the team, so maybe they're onto something there.

NHL, NHLPA announce partnership with You Can Play

While the NHL might be a little behind the times with some things, I'm glad to see them leading the way with this cause.

Yes, gotta give Bettman credit on this one.  NYT has it on the front page of its website right now:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/12/sports/hockey/nhl-announces-initiative-in-support-of-gay-athletes.html?hp

And, as always, Andrew Ference is one of the ones front and center in support.  That guy rocks.

And kudos of course to the Burkes, who get a mention and quotes as well.

I wonder which NHL player will be the first to come out?  My guess is that a group of them, from different major sports, will come out together.

Another opportunity for Shanahan to blow a possible suspension:

I'd give that at least 4 games (Hall was already suspended this year). No penalty on the play  ::)

I'm guessing it'll go unpunished or there will be a nominal fine.

Yeah that was brutal. If that's not an intent to injure another player I don't know what is.

Whoa.  That guy Taylor Hall has got to learn.  A suspension would be just the thing.  Beginning to dislike this Hall guy.

mirtle: Volchenkov suspended four games. Won't make Devils playoff push easier.

The reaction from devils fans is that they wish it was longer, they say he's been brutal this season.

For some reason, I want to see both the Islanders and Blue Jackets make the playoffs. Especially the Islanders -- I want to see what Tavares can do.

I'm still hoping Columbus makes it and the Rangers miss. Especially now with the Gaborik trade.

This prompted me to check out Marian's stats with the Blue Jackets. 3 goals, 3 assists in 5 games. Not bad.

So Hall got nothing for this? No penalty and no suspension? Brutal.
