Another opportunity for Shanahan to blow a possible suspension:

I'd give that at least 4 games (Hall was already suspended this year). No penalty on the play  ::)

I'm guessing it'll go unpunished or there will be a nominal fine.

So Hall got nothing for this? No penalty and no suspension? Brutal.

That is brutal.

I don't know, it should have definitely been a penalty of course but a suspension seems like a bit much. There's not much Shanahan could have done, he can't have him start the next game with 2 minutes for slashing. He could have fined him but then you set a precedent for a fine for any future big slashes like that. And really, if Hall got a penalty on the play like he should have this probably wouldn't be garnering much attention.

I think you could make a case for intent to injure on that slash.

I thought this was a weird stat.

The top five for most overtime goals in the regular season are all European/Russian.

Jagr is 1st with 17. Sundin is tied for 2nd with 15.

Only 3 of the top ten are North American.

Surprising for sure, but also reasonably explainable.  European players have a history of playing on larger ice surfaces with more room, roughly comparable to 4-on-4 play.  North Americans are, in a very general sense, often considered better two-way players, but OT is more freewheeling once teams have secured a point, which is more suited to the high-end offensive skill of the top Europeans.

Most of those goals would have been scored pre-4 on 4 though.

13 post 4-on-4, unless I'm wrong about the year 4-on-4 started.

Edit: which I was, so 12 goals.

For obvious reasons, the Boston-Ottawa game tonight has been postponed.

The Celtics-Pacers game in Boston tomorrow has been canceled. It apparently won't be rescheduled. Wonder if the NHL goes that route too. I was reading that there are very few options for a rescheduled game. And a couple of them would result in the Bruins playing three games in three nights.

Well, the NBA season has 2 games left for most teams, so that game doesn't look like it will have an impact on the standings/playoff seedings. Indiana won their division and can't catch the team in front of them. Boston can't drop lower than where they are, and, at best, could tie the team in front of them. The Bruins/Sens game, on the other hand, could have a significant impact on the seedings - and, could possibly the difference between Ottawa making the playoffs or not.

Gotcha. Didn't realize where the NBA season was at. I've always been used to it running pretty closely with the NHLs. Didn't take the lockout into consideration though.

I suppose they could play it April 28th, since there won't be any games on that day. Playoffs would start then Tuesday or Wednesday? It's an important game since it could decide the division and potential playoff matchups.

That's exactly what they will do, season extended by one day.

That's because I work in the NHL front office.  ;)

Good article on what the Bruins will be doing for tonight's game:

http://espn.go.com/boston/nhl/story/_/id/9182415/boston-bruins-embracing-role-wednesday-hosts-td-garden

I've never been a big Brad Marchand fan but what he's doing should be commended:

Bruins forward Brad Marchand will also be raffling off his suite at the Garden for the team's first home playoff game, with all proceeds benefitting the family of 8-year-old Martin Richard, who died in Monday's attacks. Richard was a fan of the Bruins and was photographed grinning while at a game, wearing a Bruins hat and jersey.

"Our whole team saw the photos of and learned that he and his family are big fans of ours," Marchand said. "This is just one small gesture which I hope can help the Richard family during this incredibly sad time for them. What they are going through is unimaginable and we will try to assist them in any way we can."
