Sure, but the motivation behind the decision can just as easily be "We feel we need to change it up a bit" as it is "We don't like Seguin."

If Seguin is their most valuable, non-essential piece, and I think he is, then shopping him makes a lot of sense...if they get back a great deal.

Fair enough, but why then mention all the behaviour stuff, if your shopping him? Wouldn't that diminish his value a bit? I don't know, I'll just let it play out.

Who did mention it? Not anyone officially from Boston.

Chiarelli said that he needed to focus all his attention on hockey and become a better pro.

DarrenDreger: I'm told there are 7 pieces to the Seguin-Eriksson trade. 3 prospects moving from Stars. 4 players total.

My initial thoughts beyond the assessment of this deal:

"I wish Nonis could be so ballsy" and "Dallas/Nill found a potential 1st line centre just like that and the Leafs are still waiting for one."

:-X

Honestly, though, if Eriksson is involved than it's not really a question of "ballsy"-ness. The Leafs don't really have anything comparable short of, say, Kessel.

I don't think Seguin's future is at centre. I think he stays on the wing.

That's not really behaviour(or doucheyness, as you put it) stuff. That's maturity stuff. That's basically the same thing Eakins was saying about Kadri a few months ago.

I admit I know nothing of this situation, but rumour was he was out partying a lot, much like Carter, Richards and Lupul were in Philly. I'm not one to judge a young guy for drinking a lot, but add that to Chiarelli saying he's not focusing on his hockey enough after signing a big contract and it looks like it's a problem.

I just wouldn't have mentioned it at all if I was trying to trade him. Doesn't matter apparently, as it seems Dallas is giving up a boatload for him, so the point is really moot now.

Yeah, for Chiarelli to come out and say that means there was definitely something going on behind the scenes that the team was not happy about.

I was reading about this earlier this morning, on the Bruins board at HF, and there was definitely something that gone awry.

Sure, all I was saying is that saying a young player needs to focus on his game more and mature isn't tantamount to saying "Stop partying" or "he's a bit of a jerk". It's something that gets said about a lot of players.

Well, but if you read the thing you linked to Chiarelli makes it pretty clear that he'd still be expecting to receive a very good return for him. Provided you still valued the guy and whatever problems his "maturity" caused didn't result in an actual lowering of his price then it really doesn't matter what you say. If I call my house a dump but refuse to budge on the asking price and would be happy to keep living there...no harm done.

Hard to call it a boatload without knowing who/what the other pieces involved actually are. Eriksson for Seguin/Peverly on it's own is probably a slight win for Dallas. They give up the best player but come out with a better team.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Joe Morrow is believed to be one of the pieces going from DAL to BOS. Also, perhaps Reilly Smith and Matt Fraser. Looking for confirmation.

Would you be happy to live there though? I mean, I think we're getting into splitting hairs here. It just seemed logical that if you're trying to trade somebody, you talk him up, not saying anything remotely negative. I'm sure other GM's know more about his character anyway, so we should probably move along, I was more just trying to understand it a bit more.

I have no idea who any of those guys are. Is it a boatload?  :)

But there's still going to be a huge difference between what gets said in public and what might get said behind closed doors. Clearly Boston shopping Seguin yielded a result but that doesn't mean that they wouldn't have been able to bring him back.

Morrow was the key piece of the Brendan Morrow deal, but, the other two . . . they look like okay, but not spectacular prospects - guys that every organization seems to have a couple of. So, no, if that's the deal, I wouldn't call it a boatload at all.

But then Dallas called, is that what you're saying? I suppose the initial point was to send the message and have him play this year.

Maybe it was Chiarelli sending a message then? LOL, just kidding.

Well, or Boston "shopped" Seguin in sort of the same way that Nonis reportedly shopped Phaneuf. The difference being that Chiarelli got an offer that made sense.
