Probably. If he'd been able to fight better or PK, he probably could have stuck.

But getting 8 mins/game, he put up 20 pts last year. And getting 12 mins/game with Atlanta, he put up 14 goals and 39 pts - that's pretty good production for a fringe guy.

If a team had a need for a 4th liner who can hit and go to the front of the net on the PP, he might be able to help a team. We could have used him a couple of years ago when no one would go to the net.

So I'm not quite ready to completely write off his chances as he's been waived from a Cup winning roster. But it's obviously slim at this stage of his career.

If he could fight, he'd be a good replacement for Orr.

Boychuk might get a look somewhere, I recall him having some buzz not forever ago.

And unlike some other former first rounders who have found themselves on waivers, Boychuk has actually been pretty productive in the AHL. He's leading his team in points. For some reason I thought he was a bigger guy than he actually is though.

I saw a few people actually speculating that it would be a good fit yesterday. The Penguins were going to have Jeffrey and Tangradi duke it out for the final top-6 spot beside Malkin and Neal, and neither has really performed how they would have liked. So it could be a very big opportunity for Boychuk if that's where they put him.

The Penguins were going to have Jeffrey and Tangradi duke it out for the final top-6 spot beside Malkin and Neal, and neither has really performed how they would have liked. So it could be a very big opportunity for Boychuk if that's where they put him.

When Niskanen returns, they'll have 24 on their roster. I guess with 8 dmen, Despres will get sent down as he's waiver exempt. I'd been hoping they'd have to waive a forward (though Jeffery may have been the one and he's less interesting to me than Tangradi).

I wonder if Tangradi is just one of those big bodies taking time to develop ..

I've always liked his potential. Big power forward that hasn't quite put it together, but I think the potential is still there.

I don't recall seeing him play much since he was drafted. But he's had little ice time in the NHL. (8-10 mins/game) and not a lot of PP time. His hits stats (however questionable they may be) look pretty good - more than a hit/game

He could see time on Malkin's line on that wing and see him in that position and adding speed and a little bit of grit to that line."

So he's going to get a shot to play with a pretty good player which might be just the tonic he needs to get him going.

Makes sense in light of Jeffrey & Tangradi not clicking.

Yes. they blew the whole thing wide open with that contract.  Ironically it still stands as the worst one of all of them, by far.
