btw how about the jays get matt garza from the cubs he might come cheap then greinke imo.

Probably cost more, actually. He's still under team control for another season, whereas Greinke is a free agent this winter and, with the new CBA, any team that picks him up in a trade can't get compensation picks if they lose him.

Speaking of Garza:

Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi

#BlueJays showing most interest in pitchers under control beyond this year. Matt Garza and Wandy Rodriguez high on their list, sources say.

No thanks on Wandy.  He's got a nice NL ERA that has amounted to a career 103+ ERA+.  I think he gets destroyed coming to the AL East.

Yeah. He's a depth guy/innings eater in the AL East. Even if he'd come cheap, I'd rather try out internal options.

Jays are running out of internal options without rushing guys busta. Wandy would at least eat some innings and with the Jays offense, he might do pretty well.

That's not entirely true. There are a handful of guys with the AAA team that they haven't gone to yet. Most of the pitchers they've brought up have come from AA.

Jays stake Cecil to a 4 run lead and he goes out and gives 3 right back.

I think it's time to start watching the Braves.

Also, while they're not getting great production from behind the plate they have gotten 18 homeruns in about 420 at-bats from Arencibia/Mathis.

When Dwayne Murphy gets fired, I think that will probably be Blue Jays part II legacy.  Turning Jeff Mathis and Jose Molina into decent offensive threats.

Being 2.5 games out of a playoff spot in the A.L. East, the Blue Jays are .500 at the break, for the first time in 5 years.

Also, rumours, rumours, and more rumours abound as Jsys G.M. Anthropoulos may make some much-needed trades to bolster an already injury-plagued team (pitching).  Some players to consider are Matt Garza, Justin Upton (Diamondbacks outfielder), Chase Headley (Padres third baseman), etc.

With some of the above teams in need of third baseman (Arizona), Brett Lawrie's name is mentioned as potential trade bait.  The Jays can easily make any of these deals given that they have enough depth (prospects & players) to yield.

As an example, Anthropoulos could get Headley and then re-trade him to Arizona for Upton.  It isn't that simple, but, Anthropoulos having done something similar when he obtained Yuneu Escobar from Atlanta, no one would doubt he couldn't do it again.

Possibilities are there.  What or rather whom the Jays want and are willing to part with us another.  Stay tuned.

I cannot imagine a scenario where they trade Lawrie.  They have a Canadian (potential) star on their hands who they actively sought just a couple years ago.

Sorry but... how is he getting fired and why is that all he deserves credit for?

I wasn't implying that he was about to get fired, and no, it's not the only thing he should get credit for, I just find it to be the most interesting thing he has done.  Sure, he plays a role in Bautista's emergence, but he turned two atrocious hitters into effective players.  I think that is really quite an accomplishment.

It wasn't meant to denigrate Murphy's role as hitting coach.  The offense on its own is keeping one of the worst pitching staffs the Jays have put on the field in contention.

With the Bautista's comments at the All-Star game today about wanting help (or something to that effect), sportsnet threw around some names (not surprising).

I hope a bunch most of our blue-chippers remain in the fold. I wasn't anywhere near sold on Gose when we acquired him but it seems he's making big strides in the right direction.

There's a part of me that thinks we should move some of them, but only for very good, big pieces with years left on their contracts, and another that thinks our bullpen is waaaay too shaky to even consider a playoff run. If that's not to be then we need to move some of complimentary pieces (Davis, Encarnacion, Johnson, Frasor, Laffey?, Oliver) that are having good years for more prospects.

At some point this organization needs to arrive, I'm just not sure this is quite the year....

Joey Bats makes it to the finals of the home run derby, but Fielder ends up winning 12-7.

Good showing, but came up a little short. Too bad.
