2013-2014 Minor Trades and Signings Thread

Kevin Shattenkirk's four-year extension with #stlblues carries a $4.25M AAV. Total deal worth $17M.

DarrenDreger: Mike Smith deal:  6 years. 6 years, $5.6666 per. No-trade and no-move clause included.

Lot of money for a guy with one really solid year under his belt.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Horcoff is off to DAL. Believe it's for a draft pick. TBA. Horcoff has a $5.5M cap hit but has 2 yrs remaining at $4M and $3M, respectively.

DarrenDreger: Waiting for final details. @TSNBobMcKenzie, but told Horcoff to Dallas involves a few pieces.

This one is a little surprising.

Surprising for sure, I never thought they'd be able to dish Horcoff someplace. They must be taking salary back, right?

My guess is they're retaining some salary and sending another asset with him.

Yeah, because there is no way that Edmonton is getting assets for Horcoff. Other than the 7th or whatever the pick is.  :)

Depending on the asset they're including (if they in fact are) and how much salary they're retaining (again, if they in fact are), they might get something serviceable back, but, not likely to be something worth what they're sacrificing.

Reported that Edmonton is getting a 2016 7th round pick and 6/7 dman Philip Larsen. So far, capgeek doesn't report any salary retained. Larsen has one year left on a $1 mil deal.

Edmonton did pretty well to unload that contract.

Jets extended Blake Wheeler: 6 years/5.6 cap hit per year

A few less recent signings that may not have been mentioned...

Little also re-signed with the Jets for 5 years @ 4.7 per year
Gagner with the Oilers for 3 years @ 4.8 per year
Alzner with the Caps for 4 years @ 2.8

5.6 million a year for Wheeler? I might not be too familiar with his game recently, but that seems high for his game. Is he even as good as Little? Wow.

It surprised me too but he had 41 points in 48 games this year and this buys a bunch of UFA years. Since being dealt to the ThrasherJets he's scored at a .81 PPG pace which works out to 66 points per 82 games so....actually kind of reasonable.

I don't care about the Jets salary cap, but for their sake, I hope he maintains that pace. I kind of thought salaries would have gone down this season, I guess I was wrong. Kadri and Franson may not get the show-me contracts I think they should.
