Salivating commencing. I really don't think I've been this pumped about a prospect in a long time.

gunnar36 said:Biggs and Gauthier were terrible first round picks. Putting an emphasis on drafting terrific skaters with skill as opposed to plodders with character and so called 'defensive awareness' makes more sense to me and seems to work for the Red Wings who consistently find skill in the mid to late first and second rounds.

Biggs, I'll grant you, but Gauthier is actually a pretty good skater with some potential to be a really valuable player for the team. That's the kind of guy you can reasonably expect to find late in the 1st round - especially when it's not in a particularly good draft year.
Toronto Maple Leafs: B
Frederic Gauthier had a decent tournament. He's good at what he does, which is kill penalties and not lose any faceoff draws cleanly. He had a moment or two where he was able to create off the rush, but overall his skating/skill combination is bland, and was more of a big-body player who could protect the puck offensively.
William Nylander was one of the very best players in the tournament, consistently creating offense for Sweden. He was a machine in terms of gaining the offensive zone and making a play to get the puck to the net. His physical and defensive games still need work, but the latter has shown some improvement.
Rinat Valiev showed some two-way ability in this event, although I'd say he's more of an offensive defenseman who can move the puck from his own end or on the power play pretty well. Valiev's skating is just OK, and must improve if he hopes to stay with some faster NHL forwards.
