Is this a new thing with speedometers?  Are all players wearing something like that?

No, Sportsnet added it themselves. They've done it before, not exactly sure how they calculate it but it's not something on the players.

Knowing the absolute length of the boards, his distance from the boards, and tracking the timestamp as he moves, it can be calculated relatively easily with some trigonometry and v=d/t. They use it for baseball pretty regularly.

Watch TJ Brodie/#7 (a very good skater) just get absolutely blown by.

The way he pulls away from everyone else is just incredible.  I'd be fascinated to know how this compares with the top speed of other skaters.  How much faster is his top speed than Reilly's?  Or is it more in his acceleration?

Friedman mentions that there is a possibility of an $80 million dollar cap next season, that would probably allow the Leafs to sign the triplets and still be able to keep one of their UFA's without much issue.

New deals for the leafs forwards (and Gardiner) might also increase then ...

Ovi starts the season with back-to-back hat tricks (and his second game isn't over yet). I'd love to see him challenge for the Rocket again.

He tied Mats Sundin for career goals with his 3rd goal.

He's not being buried because they don't want him they are just holding on to far too many mediocre defensemen because of a non-existent trade market they are hoping to get.  Teams just don't trade for guys until like December so they are burying an NHL level talent who potentially could be elite to hold on to a bunch of 5-7 defensemen.

If Vegas is genuinely burying him, wouldn't there be interest from some teams?

He seems to have elite offensive skills.

Vegas is only burying him (and Theodore) because of his waiver exemption and their untenable roster firetruckup.

I should have clarified, I know why they are doing it, but they are burying him for now and if the player is serious about bolting, surely they'd rather trade him than have that?

Since he's been relegated to American TV it was easy to forget just how bad Pierre Maguire is. He just told an anecdote that effectively amounted to the fact that Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Oliver Ekman-Larsson were on the same team for a while in Sweden like it was the most interesting thing in the world.
