2019-2020 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

How did Florida get the schedule that they got?  The last played a week ago, and they don't play again till Saturday.  They already have a game at hand on the Leafs.

It'll catch up to them. All Star break + their 5 day mandatory break is the reason for their layoff. Leafs had a similar break Jan 18-27

I think this actually bodes well for us. Their schedule is going to be compressed as hell.

One extra game in both February and March. So not too bad. Granted that's on top of an already compressed February for everyone. Leafs play 15 games in 29 days, Florida 16.

How many back-to-backs though? That will tell us how many games the back-up goalie will get. The EXACT amount.

Four more back-to-back games:

Feb. 7th & 8th
Feb. 15th & 16th
March 5th & 6th
March 25th & 26th

Florida has a PDO of 103.1 over the past month, good for 3rd in the league.  I have to think they start to regress.

The Leafs 99.9, good for 13th, in the same stretch, even with Andersen playing at less than average form.

The issue is that there isn't much time left to leave this to statistical normalizing.

True, the end of the season must be crazy for them.  At one point though, didn't Florida have 4 games at hand on the Leafs?  Then they get to their break I figured they would even up, but by Saturday the Leafs will be 2 up again.

Since Marner's returned from injury:

Marner 32 points 22 games (2nd in league)
Matthews 29 points 22 games (8th in league)
Nylander 24 points 22 games (19th in league)

Marner is 2nd in the league in assists in that time frame. Matthews and Nylander are 1st and 8th repsectively in goals.

It is especially fun because to me, it seems like Marner hasn't really been playing all that well (relative to his lofty standards).  He hasn't made so many of those jaw-dropping moves in space.  I guess he's just been effective ...

I agree. I think he still has another level.

I wonder if we'll see Marincin on waivers again to get him back on the Marlies.

I can't remember where I read it, but someone reported that he's told the team that he'd prefer playing with the Marlies than sitting in the press box for long stretches, or something to that effect.

The Marlies actually need him, he's an AHL stud

In light of Rielly being a pseudo captain, Muzzin the conscience reportedly amenable to re-signing, the rise of Sandin, the insurance of Marincin...
