2021 Offseason Moves

At this point how many times have we seen that? Someone buys into one of these teams and makes a big deal about spending money the first few years but then they get a rea sense of the business realities of owning the Coyotes or Panthers or Canes and we start seeing moves like this.

I'm all for laughing at bad owners but I'm not really convinced this is a budget thing. Carolina's going to have to sign a $3mil-ish goalie anyway (either Bernier or Mrazek probably). I think their hockey ops just didn't believe in Ned (which I get to a certain extent but still think they should have gotten more than a 3rd).

Prices are super weird right now. If this sets the market for a guy like Garland then Dubas absolutely needs to be all over that.

Am I watching hockey backwards or something?

So... How are we supposed to compete with the Bruins? This is a crazy high value contract imo.

Their best players might remember that they're in their mid-30s, their defence isn't really that great, and they currently don't have a 2C or starting goalie signed. Granted those holes might get filled but they're far from being a juggernaut.

Well, I said it at the time so I'll say it again. The Foligno trade was really bad. It was an overpayment and a bad misreading of what the team needed. Hall was the play.

Taylor Hall signed for 6 million per over four years? Damn, that's great value. Surprised he didn't test free agency; I'm sure multiple teams would dwarf that offer.

After the year he had, I don't think he was cashing in.

Agreed.  I think it's the worst of Dubas's career.  Three picks, one of which is a first rounder, for 11 games of a player.

Hopefully Dubas learned his lesson and won't do something like that again.  I liked his previous approach of trading for players with term left.

100%

Cale Makar for 9 million x6 years

It?s a good deal.  I know our big player deals got signed pre-cap freeze but it really is frustrating seeing this.

I don't know, this seems pretty comparable to those deals. Marner got a hair or so under what the best UFA forwards get, Makar got a little less than the best UFA defensemen.
