2022 Trades

In response to what question?  (They have a 0% chance to make the playoffs ????)

Edmonton? They're in a playoff spot and seem to be a safe bet to make it. Also playing their best hockey of the season since firing Tippett.

My guess is a post still associating Holland with Detroit.

Lol Vegas pooched the Dadonov trade

Seattle: Giordano we're legally obligated to have a no-trade list from you please please just fill one out and we'll work with it whatever it says

Vegas: If I don't see Dadanov's list then it means it doesn't exist

Ottawa: Do we need to share this with Vegas now that we've traded Dadanov to them? Nah. It's probably fine. I mean, they didn't ask about it.

I don't know what the general protocol is for that stuff but I still think even if Ottawa should have included that but didn't the onus is still on Vegas here to double check things.

And if they weren't even aware that Dadanov HAD a NTC... jesus...

Oh, for sure. I just find it funny that the incompetence of management in Ottawa led so directly to incompetence by management in Vegas.

VGK getting lightly roasted for not knowing how to use CapFriendly, when they hired General Fanager

I can't believe Vegas never looked at Dadanov's Capfriendly page to see his NTC, but also how the hell did the NHL accept this trade in the first place? Also did they never once speak to Dadanov's agent about anything during the entire trade process?

Lots of folks around the industry were stunned that the Canucks were able to jettison Travis Hamonic?s entire contract without taking money back in the deal. That they got a third-round pick in the process was gravy.

It was, truly, an unlikely and remarkable heist. An indication that when gauging market value, all it takes is one sufficiently motivated buyer to upend the preconceived notions of an entire industry.

The deal was all the more remarkable because there were no other bidders involved. The Senators were the only suitor for Hamonic, the only team that expressed interest.

"Dadanov had a NTC that nobody knew about except literally anybody who's ever been on Capfriendly" doesn't sound that complicated.

According to Friedman (32TP), something in the OTT-VGK trade call with Central Registry led them (VGK, Central Registry) to believe the NTC was voided.

There is a paper trail of Dadonov's agent submitting the NTC list on time and OTT acknowledging receipt. New CBA removed the previous clause stating that NTCs are nullified by trades (unless the recipient team elects to honour it); NTCs now travel with the player, as long as the various submissions are made on time for its upkeep.

Another clarification is that players traded post-deadline are ineligible to play the remainder of the regular season. VGK might still find a dance partner who is outside Dadonov's NTC list and trade him into purgatory.

Hard to tell if this is incompetence (most likely), or malice (Machiavellian machinations?)

I'm usually as "lol sens" as anybody, but even if they f'ed up here I still think at the end of the day it's 100% on both Vegas and the league to do their own due diligence on something like this.

That change doesn't really mean anything here though. That was only for players who were traded before their NTC actually kicked in. In those instances the receiving team had the option to honour it or not. Biggest example of that was when Subban was traded to Nashville a couple days before his NTC was to kick in and Nashville decided not to honour it going forward. But a NTC, once it kicked in, always travelled with a player.

Oh thanks for clarifying that NTC thing, Carlton!

Did Friedman specifically bring up that rule change on his podcast? I wonder if that's what Ottawa and Vegas misinterpreted though.
