I'm not sure, but it's points increasingly to the Florida run with Brunette and Mackenzie behind the bench as a "lucky bounce" that rode more on really good goaltending/excellent team and less on coaching. If I remember correctly, Brunette was lambasted that year in the playoffs for not adjusting accordingly and getting swept by Tampa Bay.

They are both Sudbury boys. I like Andrew. His parents live down the street from me and I grew up playing with his younger brother. The Mackenzie family carries a lot of weight in this city as well, but I have yet to meet a direct descendent of Ken Mackenzie that I have a lot of respect for. Derek included.

NYR did a great job of locking up great goatending over the past 20 years, and now beyond!
 
Sorry, I came from a day when players had to have summer jobs to make ends meet. Of course the pendulum has shifted but to such an extent that they now dictate where they play to such an extent to tie up the hands of management. I am all for players making great money, there careers are short, but sometimes I think they dictate too much.

In the years they had to maintain a summer job, the players didn't have much of a choice.
In recent years, NMCs or modified MCs are negotiated so I can't blame that 100% on the player. Takes two.
Trouba had a 15 team no trade list this season so there were a lot of teams they could have traded him to. His performance, cap hit and salary (all things the player had a hand in) probably contributed as impediments to getting a deal done.
It was also in the contract that they could waive him. It was Trouba's choice to avoid waivers.

I felt this way with Marner. They contracted a NMC with him. (most players in his rental district get them). Too bad for the team if they felt differently later. I can't beat up Marner or his agent for haggling a good deal and wanting to enforce it. He's 8th in league scoring since he came into the league. 6th in league scoring this season. Highest Leafs regular season and playoff scorer since he came into the league and one of the best two way players in the game. Team Canada seems to like him. He was willing to do a deal last May. They screwed around and let the media run him. Now, one way or the other, they're probably going to pay for it if they don't want to lose him for nothing. That is not the players fault. That's on management.

I can see why a team might think Fowler still has value - especially with the Ducks retaining a big chunk of salary. Trouba, though…the Rags were desperate to be rid of him.
