24/7 Red Wings/Maple Leafs Episode One Thread

It was alright, lots of Phaneuf in the first episode because they happened to be filming during that hit and the suspension decision so they thought it would provide some drama.  I'd like to see more of some other players next episode, and more in dressing room talks by Carlyle.

I definitely feel as though the first episode suffered from a lack of break-out star. There doesn't seem to be a Bryzgalov in the bunch.

My wife is not a huge fan, but she started to connect with the players and coaches as people not just chessmen on a big slate of ice?perhaps she will be more content to watch more games now that she has seen this show

Nice sentiment about Clarkson coming home / national anthem...
Kadri could perform life saving open heart surgery on me and I still wouldn't like him...
Oh Alfie...

I liked the footage from behind the scenes such as from the airplane guys playing cards or from the X-mas party at Ricoh in which unmarried guys played table hockey. It showed nicely the chemistry among the Leafs. Not sure if it was coincidence, but it seemed that JvR is a very competitive guy and loves winning on Phil should it be playing cards or table hockey (won in both). I liked that stuff.

I also liked that the Leafs scenes seemed more natural (Phaneuf back home, Lups training sessions etc.), I mean Red Wings young guys talking about Datsyuk in restaurant or Alfie bringing home X-mas tree and than taking his sons to Joe Louis Arena, give me a break.

I kinda hoped that the guys did stuck that toaster on purpose. Nothing personal against Carlyle, but it would be really funny. Never mind.

Yeah the Datsyuk stuff in the restaurant was embarrassing.

Yeah I was cringing at that.  Players were obviously talking for the camera, there's no way I believe they act like that normally.  "He's like top 1...2 in the world.  When i'm on the ice I look to pass to #13!!"

That stuff wasn't great but I don't know if it came off as any more pointless or forced than Dion Phaneuf talking about his suits.

I hear what you're saying, but Phaneuf didn't say 1 word about his suits, it was the announcer and his wife that talked about it in that first segment.

Plus they set the restaurant dialogue up as "eventually talk turned to Pavel Datsyuk" as if it were naturally occurring whereas in other scenes they made it obvious the people were conversing with the camera/audience (ex: Lupul talking about his injury after his workout).

That entire supposedly candid talk between players about Datsyuk seemed staged to me.  That's the problem I had with it, not the fact that it was also boring.

I believe that's what we're saying yes.

First of all, he did not talk about his suits but even if he did it revealed something I guess nobody from us ordinary fans had an idea about (Phaneuf being that much stylish). To me it was very interesting piece about Dion off ice personality. Just look how many people made a comment about his closet. Noway you can compare this to "Datsyuk debate" in terms of revealing something about your beloved team, its players etc. which I guess is purpose of the series.
