Armchair GM Thread 2024-25

Kypreos is an example of what happens with CTE. And sometimes tries to force his alpha status to supress good commentary from Bourne and McKee.

But in fairness to him, he has great instinct and has made instinctual calls that turned out correct. And he won a Stanley Cup too. Plus he played with a lot of grit.
I’m not going to disagree with your general point - but come on - he played absolutely no factor in the rangers cup win.

I vividly remember his last time on the ice in the NHL. Knocked out cold in New York in the preseason, face on the ice in a pool of blood. It was disturbing. I believe CTE is something found post-humorously, to say he has hit may not be a fair comment.

I don't mind Kyper, he gives an actual opinion as opposed to most who leave all their opinions open-ended so they can never be wrong.

He's honestly come around on me lately. He's a blowhard but he knows it gets people listening. I do think he's more connected than we give him credit for.
Oh he’s connected that’s for sure. I don’t deny that. It’s just that his opinions are so …. dated. He reminds of when stormin Norman was on the FAN and lost his mind.

I think the business he is in is much less secure than it used to be. He's just trying to survive and keep relevant like the rest of us.

Acquiring Rantanen for Knies (and yes, they'd have to have a contract agreement with Rantanen first) would be such a big and un-Leafy move (not saying it would be a good deal, though Rantanen is a better player than Knies right now). It's the kind of deal I could see a Florida or Tampa or Vegas pulling off and then winning the Cup.

I think if it addressed an area of need for the Leafs, there'd be a strong argument to do it, but such a move is just upgrading the same position (1LW) by throwing more assets and more future cap into it. And Rantanen is more of a finesse winger than what Knies presents (power F1 with small game skill), so we'd just be stacking strength on strength.

Knies+ for a playdriving centre, or a right hand shot Miro Heiskanen (does that exist?) would get my attention.

If he was a C, go for it. JT could go at the end of the season if he prices himself out.

I just checked out Rantanen's playoff stats, they look superior to anyone on our roster. Well over a point per game,101 points in 81 playoff games for 1.25 PPG!

Rantanen straight up for Knies. Who says no?

Does it change with Rantanen promising to sign at $14M/year with the leafs?
Carolina says no. Rantanen is the better player and they’d need to recoup close to what they gave up for him. That doesn’t mean the move makes sense for the Leafs.
