Brendan Shanahan to be named president of Maple Leafs

"I didn't even know that stat," Carlyle said. "Stats are for you guys. I'm not going to worry about it. We got a point and we're going to move on. We got three out of four points and we're going to build on that."
(Quote in reference to a comment about CORSI and the Leafs going 24 minutes between shots in a shoot-out loss to the Rangers)

Did they have it up and then switch it? Dont see it on the TSN feed.

It was a Leaf logo the entire time on the Sportsnet feed. TSN may have just had a bad camera angle.

They must. I still haven't seen one on TSN since I brought it up. Just Raptors on the screen behind them.

That's encouraging.

Then he went on to say that he favours playing only 3 lines, not covering points, 5 defenders behind his net and employing a dump and mild chase offensive strategy.

That's good. I was just lamenting that over the entirety of my life as a Leafs fan the one thing I really missed from management was the constant use of meaningless corporate buzzspeak.

Wait a minute.  Was there a presser this morning?  DID I MISS SOMETHING IMPORTANT?

Truth to told, this is the biggest question I had. It's not exactly "I *heart* corsi" but it's something.

This Shanahan hiring couldn't be any better.  I am very surprised to read some posters in this thread thinking this was going to be a figure head hiring or that this won't effect the on ice product.  This is a guy that climbed the NHL ladder quickly because he is a smart and very insightful about what it takes to build good hockey teams.

This is a direct demotion to Nonis.  Regardless of the extension (which I guess MLSE think they made a mistake on now), we won't be seeing any Clarkson type deals again. I wish this would have happened last offseason.

Now please, fire Carlyle.

I haven't seen the full presser, but from the clips on TSN, particularly with Leiweke, I get the sense that Phaneuf will, at a minimum, be stripped of his C.

Yeah. I think if they are being true to their word about a change in culture and leadership, than Carlyle is gone and Phaneuf loses his captaincy, or is traded.

How in the world do you figure that? He climbed the NHL's corporate ladder because he's very smart and insightful about something he had absolutely no role in doing with the NHL?

You're right, I am sure Shanny has no idea about hockey teams.

Look, he is smart, has a PhD in hockey and doesn't leave things unturned.  Maybe it's novel to you that smart people can be good at things that they may not have much experience at, but that's the reality of the world.  If you think Shanny is inexperienced when it comes to constructing hockey teams than I have an ocean-front condo to sell you in Nebraska.

I would take Leiweke's comments with a grain of salt.  As I mentioned earlier, almost everything he said today directly contradicts what he'd been saying up to today.  Who knows where the truth lies?

During the season you say whatever is best for the media to stay off your back for the day.  The end of the season the truth comes out.  Pretty obvious what is being said today is the truth.
