Wow, pretty atrocious numbers.

On another note, Rick Nash has stepped his game up a notch. Despite the criticism he received for being selected, he has 9 goals in his last 9 games.

Don't worry, if Price falters and Luongo gets injured again, we'll have Mike Smith.

Bernier - 17 goals in 6 games - .919 SV%

Smith - 20 goals in 8 games - .905 SV%
Luongo - 3 goals in 2 games - .952 SV%

That's how he responds to pressure (see the playoffs)

If Luongo does get re-injured, can't we name a new goalie to the squad?

I'm sure there's a good reason for it but does anyone have an opinion as to why Benn seems to have been a uncontroversial selection to the team? He doesn't seem to have the resume or the numbers to put him ahead of guys like St. Louis or Hall or even his own teammate Seguin.

St. Louis should have made it, but Seguin is a C and they have tons of great C options so guys like Benn (and St. Louis falls here too) are natural wingers which may have given them an edge.  Benn's captain of the Stars, is big, physical, can score.  I'm sure Lindy Ruff pushed hard for his inclusion.  Maybe he's just more of a complete player in HC's eyes.

Seguin played the wing until this year though, didn't he? I'd have thought that versatility would be a good thing. Anyways, the question wasn't so much why Benn made it as anyone who was a serious candidate for the team would have their arguments and advocates but rather why, in the scrutiny that has followed, his name hasn't come up more.

Although, admittedly, I don't watch the Stars a ton.

Good question, was wondering that myself about Benn.

When it came down to picking the wingers, I think they had a strong preference for those big, well-rounded, versatile types who can be effective without needing to have the puck.

I don't know if that's entirely true, but it's just an observation. Actually, like Potvin said, a few of the picks seemed to be driven by who the coaches prefer.

A guy like Hall never made it because he's a turnover machine and they didn't trust him defensively.

If that's the answer re: Benn, that he's a really well rounded player, I'd buy it. I struggle a little bit with the "turnover machine" line of thinking re: Hall as I've never really bought it concerning Kessel either but if you tell me he's a liability defensively I'd buy that too.

Still, I sure would like to see Canada's B-team get a shot in Sochi.

I was wondering why Neal wasn't expected to make it (or didn't make it) over Benn.

Is he bad defensively? He can be a dominant offensive player.

His dirty play should have him left off the team permanently.

He's a phenomenal hockey player, but Canada has a lot of those.  I think character should count for something and things like his knee to the face of Marchand and his cheap shot on Giroux in the playoffs last year should be knocks against him.

I just wasn't sure if you were serious. I don't know that I entirely agree but as someone who couldn't believe that Bertuzzi was on the team in '06 I can't say I entirely disagree either.

St. Louis held off the team - 8G 5A 13P in 9 games since not being named to the team.  He's on a 9 game point streak.

Any consensus as to what Olympic skater Canada could most use an unfortunate injury to?

Probably Kunitz, but even he is producing very good numbers.
