Good question, was wondering that myself about Benn.

When it came down to picking the wingers, I think they had a strong preference for those big, well-rounded, versatile types who can be effective without needing to have the puck.

If that's the answer re: Benn, that he's a really well rounded player, I'd buy it. I struggle a little bit with the "turnover machine" line of thinking re: Hall as I've never really bought it concerning Kessel either but if you tell me he's a liability defensively I'd buy that too.

Still, I sure would like to see Canada's B-team get a shot in Sochi.

I'll admit, of the players on Canada's roster Benn is definitely the one I know the least about, but from what I've seen and heard of Benn he's a damn good shooter and as a power forward he can do a lot of the heavy lifting on a line that a guy like say - St. Louis or Giroux - wouldn't be able to do. A guy who can retrieve pucks along the boards and out-muscle the opposition.

I'm not sure how effective that will be on International ice, but that seems to be their strategy. All the picks Canada made seemed to be very deliberate and following a formula.

So is Luongo expected to be ready to go?

Not sure but the goaltending situation is getting scary.  Price has gone into the tank, Smith has been in it for a month now and Luongo is going to be held together with band-aids.

SEND BERNIER!

Ah, felt like it was more recent and noticed Lack played last night so I assumed he was still out.

Lack's started two in a row, but last night was because they are playing B2B. Luongo's in tonight. I only know because I have him in a pool.

erlendssonTBO: #tblightning star Steven Stamkos has not been medically cleared to return this weekend, will not participate in Olympics

Big loss for Team Canada.

If any squad can absorb a loss like that, it's Canada.  IMO your potential weak spot is between the pipes.  Forwards are a murderer's row.

Not really sure how effective he was going to be...

Who is his replacement???  Marty St. Louis  or Giroux????

Take your pick. I'd go St. Louis because it's his last kick at the can. He'll be motivated. Giroux will be there next time unless there's another injury.

I'd say same.

If they don't pick St. Louis, then I don't know what Yzerman is thinking.

It's his last shot, he's on fire, left shot, right shot who cares. Marty should go. As mentioned, Giroux will be around next time.

They'll probably go with St. Louis, but if I really had to pick, I'd probably choose Giroux.  Think he's the best overall of the guys remaining.

I'd be perfectly happy if they pick St. Louis, but not for reasons such as that. Sentimentality shouldn't play a factor in the decision making process.

I think Neal is in the mix as well. I too would go with Giroux though, but one factor that I suspect works against him is that he won't slot in on Crosby's line. The two despise each other.

Honestly at this point I think they'll choose whoever's most willing to cancel vacation plans.

Player for Canada's team will be name by within 15 minutes.

Any wagers as to who it will be?

St. Louis?
Giroux?
Neal?
Staal?
Hall?
