Canucks @ Leafs - Nov. 5th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

On the same play as kadri hit they scored a goal making it a 2 goal lead with plenty of time left.  I think the hit won them the game cause after that vancouver stopped playing and we're just looking to start Crap.

A canucks player yelling in the hallway: "Matt Martin's dead. Everyone can hear it. Matt Martin's dead."

Teams play again Dec. 3.

What's hilarious is hockey media spinning Martin's behavior as a dirty and using the above quote as an example of how angry it makes vets.

No comment on the actual death threat.

Unreal.

It was Gudbranson IIRC.

I really don't know. I wonder if the NHL will have any angles we haven't seen. The ones we have it's really tough to tell. I'm leaning more and more towards it being shoulder on shoulder and Sedin's head just popping in contact.

This angle makes it look like a pretty clear headshot.

Actually, even with that angle, the arm (on point of principle contact) moved from impact before the head did.

Clearly, Kadri pulls his arm in before contact to drive with his shoulder. Take a look at where his shoulder is positioned. It's clearly right at head level. Even Kadri's reaction says, 'oh crap'. I don't think he meant to make contact with Sedin's head, based on his reaction, but he clearly did.

With his history, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him get 5 this time.

That game made me laugh. The league needs to start suspending guys for going after players in retribution for clean hits. Time to get the Neanderthals out of the sport. I'm so tired of it.

Kadri on the other hand, needed to get some punches to the face for that dirty hit. No way he avoids a suspension for that one.

That game was right out of the 80s. Kadri getting stupid again, Matt Martin channeling Bob McGill, goalie almost fight. Geez. Glad the Leafs won, Kadri needs a non trivial suspension to wake him up that blindside hits are dangerous.

I see it the same way. Definitely need to see it from the opposite angle. Nonetheless, it clearly shows why a 5-minute major for charging was warranted. I bet he gets at least 3 games.

Couldn't he be suspended just on the basis of it being a blindside hit alone, regardless of point of contact?

This is what I thought.

I bet they give him 2.

I think this video provides a pretty good look at it, seems shoulder to shoulder:

Chris Johnson agrees and provides evidence of a similar hit that went unpunished by the DOPS last season:

I'll admit it's a dangerous and reckless hit, I just don't see the head contact stuff. And maybe if Sedin was properly wearing his helmet we wouldn't be talking about it as much.

Well, like I said last night he did make contact with the head, it just wasn't the principal point of contact.

He'll sit for a game minimum, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it fell in the 3-5 game category.

Well, I guess I got my answer. I dunno. I'm happy as a leafs fan, but if this was the same play, say, Burrows on say, Matthews, and there was zero games, I'd be losing my @#it.
