Canucks @ Leafs - Nov. 5th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Eh...I'm not usually a guy to think this way but if he'd been maybe a little smarter about it he maybe could have been. After Vancouver sent two goons after guys on the Leafs that don't fight Martin should have effectively done the same thing and just beat the crap out of one of Vancouver's skill guys.

Which, in fairness to him, he was about to do before Miller was the 3rd man in.

But that's not a deterrent is it, that's just (to borrow a phrase from earlier in the thread) an eye for an eye.

Martin that was uncalled for. I can see your tough guy going after someone willing or in the same class but Stecher. Wait till next game and go after Dorsett.

So Vancouver sends their goons after our skill guys and Martin responds by fighting one of their goons a month from now in Vancouver?

Holy I knew Hughson was a homer for the Canucks as I live here out west but Simpson is starting to make me puke.

It wouldn't be a deterrent tonight but if the message is you send your goons after Rielly, we brain Sedin(or the equivalent), I'd be less inclined to send goons after Rielly.

I just think that creates a never-ending cycle of that stuff though. After Martin goons up Stetcher or somebody else Derek Dorsett isn't just going to think "well we're even now I guess".

And I'm actually fine with Martin going after people (although as I said I don't think he picked the best spot), but he's not protecting anybody he's just getting retribution.

I agree Nik. Time was now.

I'm somewhat in shock Reilly threw an open ice hit. I can't recall that ever happening.

Same thought here.  Would love to see that happen a little more often.

The resulting 2 on 1 that resulted in a goal is a pretty good argument for why that's usually not a good idea.

It was worth it in my opinion and I'm sure he got a pat on the back for it.

What goons? Dorsett is the only guy on the Canucks who regularly will drop the gloves. Burrows going after Reilly is one of their goons? Believe me when these 2 teams play again in Vancouver Dorsett and Martin will go at it. I don't mind the tough stuff but tough guys going after your smaller players or skilled guys to fight is bush. Martin didn't need to do the same.

Well, except I think it's the kind of thing that will make Dorsett want to fight Martin rather than Komarov.

I'm with you that I don't buy that Martin is a deterrent to the other team ever trying to goon it up but I don't buy that the ideal reaction to the other team taking runs at guys like Rielly is to hope the league deals with it or fighting one of their goons in December.

Seriously? Burrows is a goon and cheap shot artist of some renown. He used to put a point up occasionally, but that doesn't disqualify him.
