Cell Phones

I had an iPhone 3GS and the thing never lasted a day for me.

I have the S3 and bought this extended battery.  Lasts 3 days now instead of 6 hrs with the old battery:

Does it make the phone kinda brickish now?

Yeah, it's not double depth - but it is close.  Small price for me to have a phone that lasts the day, or two.

Anyone jump to iOS 7?
Yup - not bad....a little to "bright" for my linking visually but some nice new features also. I do notice slight lag on an iPad3 and to a lesser extent the iPad mini. The iPhone5 runs much the same.

I did on my iPad 2, its not bad, takes some getting used to, reminds me of the BB10 OS for the swiping which after a while I am getting used to but still prefer the old method from iOS6.

yeah. I'm sure it's 'better' but so far I hate more than I like. The new font and color combination blech!!!!! I've never been a fan of light text on a darker background :(  ?? also took me forever to find out how to close an app now since the old method actually takes one to the damn app now instead of closing it. Thanks Apple. WHY must you mess with what worked?!

Tablet related: anyone here have a Microsoft Surface? I was looking at my friend's Surface Pro and it looked like a cool idea. I'm considering a Surface Pro 2 when it comes out, but the price tag is fairly high. Lugging my four year old laptop around when I travel is getting laborious, but I'm not sure if the functionality of a regular tablet is sufficient.

I use mostly microsoft programs so it makes some sense.

I love iOS 7 simply for the fact that it's much faster and more seamless. Visually it's nicer as well. Just wish the dock at the bottom was transparent rather than having a solid colour background behind the app icons.

Count me in as liking iOS 7. THe colours are a little bright, yes, and there are some needless animations, but, other than that, the Control Centre was long overdue, it feels like it runs more smoothly, and I also feel like it's either improved my battery life or improved the efficiency of a bunch of apps I use on a regular basis. Also, being able to actually hide the News Stand is a big plus.

The only additional thing I would have liked in the control centre was the ability to turn on/off the personal hotspot since I use it quite frequently rather than paying for data on an iPad plan.

I got the developers copy of iOS 7 about a month or two ago and I loved it. I used to jailbreak my phone whenever I could because of all the little things it allowed you to tweak and add and pretty much every software update for the past few years has "borrowed" jailbreak tweaks along the way. iOS 7 does it the most though.

The control centre is a direct ripoff of a popular jailbreak tweak called sbsettings. In the past I would have jailbroken my phone for that tweak alone. Why it's taken them 5 years to allow for unlimited apps in folders is beyond me, but that's actually a tweak that I paid money for when my phone was jailbroken. I've always hated how clunky the lockscreen locked and would customize it so it essentially looks exactly like how it does with iOS 7.

The one tweak that I'm upset still hasn't made it over is a quick reply function. With a jailbroken device when you receive a text message you can send a reply from wherever you are on your phone and then go back to what you were doing before instead of having to open up the messages app.

A close all button would be nice.

I still can't stand the inability to change the default browser and the lack of 3rd party keyboard apps.

I hated ios7 at first but it was basically a custom wallpaper a co-worker sent me with my work contact information on it.  ios7 butchered that custom wallpaper so I just switched to one of the new ones it came with.

I find it funny that there isn't much new and it's a brand new OS.

Do 3rd party apps help the typing on the peice of junk touchscreen keyboard?

I have one for my a android phone and I find the predictive text and layout much better than the default keyboard and the iOS one that I use on the ipad.
