Just spit-balling here, but trade Johnsson for Weeger ($3mil). Sign Thornton ($1.5mil), Simmonds ($1.25mil) and Koivu ($1mil). Re-sign Mikheyev ($1.5mil) and Dermott ($1.25m). Leaves you with:

I'd be surprised if Simmonds gets much (if any) less than $3M

I figured he'd get offers of maybe $2-2.5mil so the $1.5mil is the hometown discount. That's a tough one to predict I guess there's always at least one team out there willing to overpay a guy him like even with his declining stats.

Toughness = megadollars. Mark Messier leadership award winners don't grow on trees.

Montreal is a team I can see throwing too much cash at him.
Yup. They have lots of space. Leafs can't pay more then 1.5 for him and that maybe pushing it.

They now have Gallagher, Anderson, and Armia on their right side. Capfriendly has them with about $4.6mil in space so that's a lot but I'm not sure they'll want to dedicate a big chunk of that to someone who will likely be their 4RW.

Bergevin, but, close enough.

That being said, his nickname isn't Bargain-bin for nothing.

The real question is predict the dollar and term for Freddie the goat in Montreal

This is curious.

One way to get around a NTC. I do wonder though if the team that picks him up ends up trading a little something-something to Tampa after. The PA might not like that.

Yeah. This could end up being a tricky situation.

Who's picking him up though? 5 mill for 4 more years for a small past his prime forward. Tough fit even giving him away. Maybe Ottawa?

I think for free a number of teams will definitely be interested. Maybe a reunion with Yzerman in Detroit.

The numbers for this one will be interesting. $2mil for 2 or 3 years might have been my limit. And that's recognizing you're paying a premium for his style of play.
