Pens definitely getting the benefit of the reffing tonight. Almost lost another goalie to a knee in the head. Sheesh.

Um, no. Gus dove at him.

Yeah, but, umm, that knee came down pretty deliberately. He could have cleared him easy, no need to take his helmet off.

Ah yes, the ol' two minute minor for putting your knee down deliberately at the player diving at your feet.

lol so what did he think the goalie was just going to de-materialize? He made no effort to avoid contact, and when contact happened, he put his weight on his right knee. He didn't have to do that.

Great win solid effort and nice to see Gus with some big stops. He has the talent. Parts of his game which need some work but goaltending I think comes down to confidence and wins like tonight only bodes well down the road. Wilson hinted today he would probably start tomorrow to. Bring on the Sens who had a big come from behind win today.

Although he made a small mistake I just love to see how Dion plays now...he's awesome...

There's no onus on a player to avoid contact when the other player dives at him. Again, what do you call? Goaltender interference? When the goalie charges at you? Gus took the risk there.

He didn't charge him he just went down.

If it was Domi it would be five a game and eight games for attemp to injure, nevermind goalie interference. :)

Anyway, watch the replay, he kneed him in the head, no doubt about it. Nothing about the collision necessitated that, diven at or not.

He's playing far more like the Dion of Calgary.  He will make bad defensive decisions at time, take himself out of plays by rushing too much, but it really helps drive his offensive game.  I'd rather a 50-60 point Phaneuf who blows a goal every 3-4 games than a 30 point guy who still isn't a shut-down defender when he holds back.

I think Phaneuf was so-so defensively tonight. There were some plusses like the hit on Malkin but he was weak on the first goal and he was the guy caught out of position on the kamikaze save by Gus. Obviously I'm liking the offensive instincts though.

Totally!

So who here thought the Leafs would have the second best points win% (.750) in the NHL after ten games?  :o

:)

I watched the replay. There's nothing there to penalize.
