Game 18 - Yotes @ Leafs - 11-15 - 7PM SportsNet

Injuries and all, but that's a tough spot for Kulemin.  He's struggling to put the puck in the net and has to go to the shootout (my memory might be wrong, but I didn't think that he was great at it).

Let's cut to the chase here.  Argue all you want to about whether this or that piece of crap is Wilson's fault.  The fact is that the team hasn't gotten it done, and he's been here more than 3 years.  At some point you gas the coach.  Burke should have done it last year but he's letting friendship get in the way of a decision that any other franchise would have made long ago.  End of story.

Before or after you give him a decent goaltender? If we had Nicklas Backstrom or Pekka Rinne we wouldn't even be talking about canning Wilson.

Most coaches in the league can craft a defensive scheme that accounts for less-that-elite goaltending.    He hasn't done it.  And, just in case you have forgotten, he never got it done in SJ with far better goaltending than he got here.

In this league if you don't win, you're gone.  It's well past time to try a different coach.

Let me put the onus on you: What's the downside to firing Wilson?

So how many current coaches have won the cup? Off the top of my head: Mike Babcock, Randy Carlyle, Claude Julien, Joel Quenneville. Any more to add out of a 30 team league?

I'm not saying firing Wilson is a horrible idea. I don't really care for him as a coach. My point is that firing Wilson, imo, will not alleviate the Leafs problems. The goaltending issues will still be there until we get a proper No. 1 in place. The systems are irrelevant when your goalies are scored on on non-scoring chances.

Like I said: Quinn had Belfour and Cujo bail the team out. Burns had Potvin. Every good team has a good goaltender, not vice-versa, at least IMO, unless you want to play the trap like Tampa did.

The Leafs will still have just as many problems without Wilson as they did with Wilson, new systems or not. Maybe it'll kick start the PK% but I think better goaltending will take care of that. The PP needs work and I don't have an answer for that, but I don't know if Wilson is even headmanning that.

No one is talking about winning the cup, getting into the post season or fighting for a top 8 spot would be a step in the right direction.

The reference to SJ is a reference to Wilson not winning the Cup in SJ.

We're above top 8 right now, even with garbage goaltending.

Give the man an extension

Frankly, I don't care if he gets axed. I just don't like the position that firing Wilson will solve all the Leafs' problems.

It was never stated that it would solve all the problems, he has had plenty of time to put his stamp on the team and he has failed. Fact.

There's not use flogging a dead horse. Fact.

6 of 17 career going in. So, he's actually pretty decent.

Could have gone with maybe Frattin, but with Grabovski and MacArthur unavailable, options were limited.

Komisarek.

He could've just skated to the blueline and wired it

Man that commentator needs to shutdown OHH scirvens is having a great time, he is soo loose i love this goalie.. ahh shutup till he actually wins.. is he still having fun?

Coming back from 2-0 to take a point is never a bad thing.  Killing a penalty (and doing a pretty good job of it too) with 5 minutes left in the game, is another good positive.  And let's be honest, they didn't lose this game, the Coyotes were given a magical bean because America gets confused by even numbers.

Why Kulemin? The most snakebit guy on the whole team! Fire Wilson!

Frattin is even more snakebit and he scored in his only shootout attempt.

Wasn't that one of the first few games of the year? He wasn't snakebit then.. I would have used Komi before I used Kulemin.

He gambled on Frattin to hopefully get his confidence back. The logic made sense to try it with Kulemin too and maybe light a fire under him. Backfired unfortunately. I probably would've went with Lupul first though.

It would be nice to get the win in the shootout, but after seeing Smith stone Kessel like that it was essentially over.

He certainly has some moves (you see them more in his old Russian highlights) so I'm not entirely shocked.  It wasn't a bad choice anyway.  Just a tough one when he probably needs a garbage goal to get him going at this point.  The number of great chances he has had over the past week or so that get saved/hit posts/bounce off particles in the air and go wide seem to make him destined to score a goal off the back of his butt to break his drought.

No, he was snakebit at the time. That's actually why Wilson used him: To help get his confidence back and give Frattin a chance to score a goal. Hasn't really translated unfortunately.
