I thought Franson acquitted himself pretty well. Showed good offensive instincts, didn't make me too nervous when they were protecting the lead, played 18 minutes and got an assist on the game winner. Good stuff.

Franson seemed to shoot into pads as much as Phanuef missed the net last year.

I'm only sort of joking, but he looked all right. It's good to have options, and with Aulie, Franson and Gardiner the Leafs definitely have that.

It's good to see Komi put together a decent set of games.

He did for sure.

The one really odd play he made was on the 2nd goal.  He had nothing to do with the shot that scored, but for some bizarre reason he followed Hagman back up to the blueline and was badly out of position because of it.

Still, he should be part of the top six for a good while now.

What a crazy game. Great to see the team go 3-0 to start so far, but we can't let up now. There's enough teams snapping at their heels. I think we can afford to drop one now that we've established a 3 game win streak, but two in a row and we're right in a dogfight again.

Now that I've started following the scores I feel like the early part of the season is the most tense: everyone's trying to establish themselves as a legitimate threat in their conference.

Gardiner needs time to work on when/when not to pinch.  He has great offensive instincts but they don't exactly line up with responsible defensive play.  To me, that is a skill that doesn't require the NHL to learn.  He just needs to figure out how aggressive to be on pinches, and when to pull back.  He does need work in the defensive end on its own, but I'm never going to expect him to be a top defensive player anyway.    I think he is much better served playing in the AHL until at least Christmas.

I was overly critical of Reimer at the end of the first for that bad goal, but he made the big saves when they counted and kept his team in the game. At the end of the day that's all you can ask from your goalie. I guess I just get nervous when I see bad goals like that. Shades of Toskala...

One of the Leafs most important players out there is none than other David Steckel.  Steckel, being the faceoff winning specialist that he is, adds a positive dimension in that category for the Leafs (another reason why he was acquired).

In last night's game, he won 71% of his draws in the faceoff circle.

Steckel is pretty good on PK as well.

Sending down Gardiner and keeping Franson in should be a very easy, obvious decision.

Right but who is your 7th d-man?  I'd bring up Lashoff just because I would be ok with him in the press box.

Lashoff would have to clear recall waivers I think.
They play the same system in the A as the leafs do. You only need your 7th in case of injury.  So just go with 6 D , saves some Cap space , the Marlies are the same  city so only go with 7 on an extended road trip. Give Gardiner and Aulie mega minutes  in the AHL , in fact put the two together and play them 30 minutes a night

I think that always was the plan but they wanted to reward Gardiner for his breakout camp, plus put a bit of fire under some of the defense... Franson in particular who didn't really look all that together in camp.

As much as I liked Komi's first two games I think he made a few terrible giveaways and will sit the next game with Gardiner drawing back in.

Kessel's skating this year looks incredible like he has gained a step.

Frattin is going to put one of those in soon. Love the way he plays, great vision and throws the body around.

Reimer has been steady and getting a number of lucky bounces which is what you need to win.

Overall impressed with most of the effort from our guys.
